Lakeview was primarily swamp in the early 1800s, like much of the Greater New Orleans area. French explorers first established an outpost where Bayou St. John meets Lake Pontchartrain. When the French occupied New Orleans, lakeview was used as an outpost, which is a small military camp or position at some distance from the main force, used especially as a guard against surprise attack.
The number 45 is the RTA bus line that travels from the Mid-City cemeteries to Lakeview.
Outpost 45 bar and dining room delivers a chic, eclectic, rustic and celebratory environment. Our kitchen brings a fusion of American cuisine with a Cajun flare that celebrate the uniqueness that we instill in the brand and culture of our company.

The atmosphere here is very warm and nice. All of the staff that I interacted with was pleasant and super friendly. We ordered crab rangoon dip as an appetizer and it floored me with how delicious it was. We also had the hot chicken sandwich and hangover bowl. Both were absolutely delicious but the fries were not seasoned. My girlfriend had a bloody martini and it was super watery (this is why I am giving a 4 star). I had an espresso martini and it was very good. Where we sat was a little cramped but it was overall a very good vibe. Hopefully the drinks will be better in the future as this is a fairly new restaurant.

This is our new favorite place to eat lunch. Nothing on the menu is bad. You have to try the She Crab Soup, I’ve from Virginia and dem folks need to take lessons on how to make it. So creamy and delicious. All the food came out super quick and the service was amazing.

Very nice experience. Great restaurant. My waitress was very knowledgeable and friendly. I never looked at the menu, I ordered based on her recommendation. My appetizer were the Fried Ribs they were served perfectly. My entrée Grilled Redfish and French Fries were also spot on.

The cocktails were pricey but mostly ice and took way too long. We actually got our appetizers before our drinks! The food was actually really good except for the cheeseburger, which was extremely dry. Service was decent, the restaurant was busy when we went and a bit too loud for our tastes. The portions seemed small for the pricing. I hope they iron out the issues as the menu is very promising.

Latest Update: Went back to outpost 45 with my two pups. Got a nice table on the patio with a nearby fan to keep cool while it was still real hot out. Took a while for staff to remember they set us up out there but once the server was made aware the service was great. Got the chip/dip, egg roll and fried oyster apps. All were very good. Thought the oysters can go a little heavier on the wasabi. Didn’t have much room for entrees but really want to try the hot chicken fried steak. It was good and very filling. Overall the apps were the highlight. That and the cocktail menu/BYO old fashioned.

We’ve been here three times and each time is better than the last. Atmosphere is amazing, and so is the food, but the wine bar and wine selection is the best I’ve been to in a long time that’s not a famous chef’s restaurant in downtown. Great place to go and relax with my favorite glass of wine and some fantastic food. They definitely know what they’re doing.

I loved the ambiance and location of Outpost 45. Started with the fried ribs, fried onion rings, and bbq shrimp. The onion rings were nice and crispy, and weren’t greasy! Prob my favorite thing..

Saturday evening dinner, would recommend reservations as there was quite a wait. Service was ok. Drinks were more ice than drink and overpriced. Appetizers were good but costly for small portions. Entrees: chicken fried steak and catfish were good but burger was overcooked and dry. Overall, costly for the portions. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice but really loud as it was crowded.

Outpost 45 is a great addition to the restaurant scene in New Orleans. We have been several times and enjoyed each experience. The redfish, salmon and twin steaks are awesome. The apps are amazing and the drinks and wine selection are top notch. Highly recommend.
