Padaek is an outstanding Laotian/Thai restaurant that deserves more recognition! Compared to its two sister restaurants in DC that are better known, Padaek is more easygoing and affordable.

If you like the Paedak (Lao fish sauce) style papaya salad, then come here. It was too fishy for me but I like that one can get it. The crispy tofu were excellent. The coconut soup for dessert was the reason I came back. The restaurant only has one dessert and next time, I will start with dessert. The drunken noodles were fine. This restaurant started out as a Thai place. The owners started putting Lao dishes in their buffet. I ate here ten years ago when they still had not put a new sign up on the front of the restaurant (changing names is pricy). Back then, they had two menus. Now they have it all incorporated in one. The restaurant is busy.

The reviews are deserved! Ate here for valentines day and it was perfect. Amazing, flavorful, authentic Laotian cuisine (I recently came from Cambodia and was craving similar flavors). Fast, easy service, and every bite was flawlessly yummy. Prices are a bit higher than I usually see for curries, etc, but it’s worth it for the quality recipes and ingredients. A decent spice level, and can increase it if you want. We had a panang curry, a green curry, and fried chicken spring rolls. Don’t skip on this place. Odd location but it makes it feel sort of like a secret . Only critique and reason for lower star rating on atmosphere is the cigar shop next door has a heavy smell that does leak into padaek, unfortunately. We got over it quickly but it was disconcerting at first.

sooooo good and super authentic Thai and Lao cuisine. I came by myself and ordered the vegetable spring rolls and som tum (papaya salad) and it was more than enough food for me! steamed sticky rice served alongside the salad was the perfect thing to counterbalance the spicy sweet funky delicious crisp papaya strands. each roasted peanut in the salad was a wonderful savory morsel and the amount of tomato and green bean to papaya ratio was perfection. also love the sister restaurant Thip Khao in DC!! prices here are a bit cheaper for a very similar menu + food experience if you can make it out to falls church

Good food and good prices. Everything but the curry was good especially the fried basil dish with catfish.

The best Thai in the area. I always over order when I visit-plenty of food per serving-delicious Thai sausage, every dish is great and their “thai spice level” is on point!

Used to come here for the lunch buffet when they still had it. Reservation for dinner is recommended, it’s that good. Great place to get a nice bowl of hot soup. All the pork dishes are delicious.

Pork shoulder ping, chicken laab and chicken khao piak sen. Ping was wonderfully charred with some nice fatty slices, so good with sauce and sticky rice. The laab and soup were just alright.

Really fortunate to have a great Thai/Laos restaurant in the area. The best dishes are definitely the Sai Oua and Naem Khao with sour pork. The Kua Mee is also excellent – it’s basically a better version of Pad Thai.
