So I’m a huge barbecue fan! Was in Charleston for a wedding so had to hit up some BBQ spots! Been following Palmira BBQ on Instagram for a while now. So I went to Port of Call food hall on a Sunday morning to try it out! Food hall was awesome! Hector was such an awesome guy who took time to discuss Direct coal cooking and offset cooking. He discussed where he gets the Locally source woodlot raised Heritage Pigs (Peculiar Pig). His goal is to use as much of the animal as possible and minimize the waste. The whole hog was amazing!! So juicy with a nice vinegar based sauce that was not too spicy. The Hash and rice was star of the platter for me! I had never had Hog hash which is a Carolina thing… it was amazing! All the sides were legit! The beans definitely paid homage to Hector and his Puerto Rican roots! I will definitely be there next time I’m back in Charleston! A must stop place for the BBQ fan in your life!

What a nice bbg place. Hector the owner made my food. It was great tasting and hot! I had the Whole Hog Sandwich with coleslaw, onion and pickles…with a soda. It was delicious.

Delicious meal, a little hidden it is actually a restaurant within a food court type thing so several options in one building with two levels. The barbecue was delicious

Great BBQ. The whole hog is done right – the Carolina way! Juicy, succulent, porky, not covered up with sauce. The beef cheeks were smoked just right with a nice bark, not an item you see around these parts too often, a great treat. And in southern fashion the sides are not to be missed. They hit the SC Hash right on the head! Perfect blend of spices and cooked down meat with a touch of vinegar. The collards were just as amazing, not overcooked, nice bite with a great spicy note. Thanks for the opportunity to enjoy your ‘que, I look forward to coming back and sharing with friends.

Absolutely amazing! Great spot for authentic and fresh whole hog BBQ. My wife and I are here on our honeymoon and found this place across the street from our hotel. The owner was incredibly nice and you can taste the love and care he puts into all of his food. We had the whole hog heritage pork with sides of beans, collared greens, slaw, and potato salad and everything was so fresh and delicious. We’ll definitely be back before we leave In a few days.

Great place to eat whole hog barbecue. The taste of the pork is Amazing!!! You can tell they use all wood to cook the pork. The selection of sides are great I had the Hash and rice and collard greens you can tell they put a lot of love into making the sides. They had live music outside in the patio as well.

True wood smoked cue. The beef cheek is probably the best smoked meat I’ve had in CHS. Nice marriage of Texas and NC style. Vinegary collards and mustard slaw with a little flair, just the way I like it.

When I was a kid a had a hog as a family pet, we were inseparable…after my first bite of Palmira’s “whole hog sandwich” I’m now convinced that family pets are stupid and are better utilized as delicious smoked sandwiches(in the right hands of course)….oh their banana pudding is fire as well (no, I never had a banana as a pet…don’t ask). Whatever, just go already and ask for the manager. Cheeers!!

I wasn’t convinced Charleston was a ‘foodie place’ as I had heard multiple times before arriving before I went to Palmira Barbecue. Forget the ‘famous’ spots and head here! Delicious!
