Love it!!! Every year our family goes to Wisconsin and we make sure to visit Paul Bunyan’s before we head back to Chicago. Everything is fresh, the service is amazing, it’s warm and cozy and makes you feel at home kind of like cracker barrel vibe but better! I also love the homemade fresh donuts that are served when you sit down.. couldn’t ask for a better place to end my trip!

Only get to go here when we are on vacation but when up there I try to begin or end or both my vacation with eating the breakfast here! The food is always so good. Service always nice with a smile! The cake sugar donuts… Yea… Wow… Ham, eggs, pancakes, etc. It is a great price with a family style eating. Small portions if you need more just ask! I want one of those dounuts yum…

Their Facebook page indicates they’re open from 7am-12pm. Super inaccurate. They seem to be closed indefinitely. That part I understand due to current market conditions. What I can’t understand is why you can’t get them to admit that or post it anywhere (not even a sign on their front door). Their number seems to be disconnected. Why not at least have a voicemail telling customers that you’re closed?

I really miss this place! A trip to the Northwoods is not complete without it! I would also like to replace my large travel mug since it broke. But I love the food & experience!

Paul Bunyan’s is a childhood favorite, completely unchanged, and I visit at least once during my October vacation, right before they close for the season. You’ll find yourself staring at a huge breakfast, so come hungry. The food is pretty good, though the eggs and potatoes could be nicer. It’s a place built to serve crowds in the summer, so this is something I sort of expect. The doughnuts are outstanding, though. Hard to resist!

I cannot remember the last time I had a breakfast brought to my table that was so delicious and fun at the same time. The famous Donuts lived up to all of the height. But beware you cannot eat very many or you will be so full Paul Bunyan himself cannot carry you out. The fried potatoes were my absolute favorite. The scrambled eggs were very soft and I also enjoyed the biscuits and gravy. I did not try the sausage but they do offer sausage links. They do not have bacon. There is a gift shop that you can walk through on your way out and there is a big selection of unique items.

Swing in and get a picture with Paul and Babe, then go inside, check out the swag, and stuff yourself. Love the all-you-can-eat homestyle cooking: chicken, ribs, pasta, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, salad, bread, and dessert, all delicious! We skipped the coffee and had a Bloody Mary and Grapefruit Shandy instead.

The family and I have been visiting Paul Bunyan’s for generations, always enjoying the “lumberjack atmosphere” and great food when we visit. The doughnuts are amazing (pictured) and one of the best staples of the morning family style breakfast. Personally, I also really enjoy the biscuits and gravy but the pancakes are consistently rubbery and tasteless. The service we’ve had has been excellent in the past and the entire crew seems to enjoy celebrating birthdays when they come up. The fried chicken family style dinner has a better (tastier) selection of food items compared to the breakfast but both meals will leave your tummy full when you are done. Prices for adults are a bit high but you are also paying for the experience and not just the food and service. Overall, a 4star rating for this classic Northwoods eatery and tourist attraction.

After 35 years of visiting the Northwoods of Minocqua, Hazelhurst, Manitowish Waters, Boulder Junction, Arbor Vitae, Presque Isle, & Woodruff – we finally stopped at Paul Bunyan’s Cook Shanty to celebrate National Paul Bunyan Day and have some camp / family style breakfast. It was very fun…from the minute you walk in to the lobby, you’re greeted by an enthusiastic host that takes your order and collects payment, next you’re ushered to your camp table, replete with red checkered table cloth, tin plate, and enamel coffee cup, by a logging camp guide. The famous Paul Bunyan, warm sugar donuts are served next with a hot cup ‘o joe and your favorite juice. Breakfast fixin’s are served family style so everyone at your table gets enough to eat. Our server, Jeremy, was great – always checking to make sure we had enough to eat and drink – he was entertaining and a gracious host. I absolutely loved my visit and can’t wait to get back again – I had a blast. Things I loved – the kitchy Northwoods decor, the Bloody Mary, the donuts, the sausage links, the french toast, the pancakes, the service, the atmosphere – thank you to everyone for making it fun visit. Wish you would have had something special for the National Paul Bunyan Day celebration – maybe next year. Have some fun, don’t wait 35 years like I did, visit Paul Bunyan’s Cook Shanty soon and enjoy!

Family style buffet with excellent food. Service was as fantastic as the food. There’s a gift shop to reward your picky eater after the meal or satisfy the trinket collector in your group.
