To me this is the best Chinese place in Detroit. I have had almost everything on the menu and it is the best

Great example of the term, “The best food at times comes from a whole in the wall.”

This is my favorite place in the state to eat Chinese food when I come to the Detroit. its a hole in the wall that you wouldn’t expect to have excellent food, but its amazing how delicious and consistent the food is. Owners are super kind people, and it shows in their food and service. cannot recommend this place enough!

Not sure if this place has new owners but the guy at the counter is charging more than what’s on the menu. Please bring back the ladies because the food doesn’t taste the same along with smaller trays. Been coming here since a kid and we drove over 15 miles to get some good Chinese food but was disappointed

It is not a clean restaurant at all. I found a mosquito embedded my food.

Our first time after passing it 3 or 4 times every day for 2+ years. Wish we hadn’t took so long to finally try it… It is absolutely delicious! Definitely recommend. Of you are in a hurry, we’d recommend going elsewhere.

Horrible taste and packed improperly – gravy leaking all over. The shrimp in lobster sauce tastes like sea water – so salty, and the schezwan chicken or chicken brocolli (can’t figure which is which), taste like they were made in honey – super sweet.

I’ve lived within 2 blocks of Pekin Pavilion for the last 5 years. For the first four, I actually thought they were closed, but once I realized they were open for business I knew I had to go one day. Yesterday, on my way home from work I decided that that day had come. I’ve read some google reviews about the owner “yelling” on the phone and they did not let me down. Some have commented that the yelling is rude, but it really adds to the je ne se quois. I called in and after some confusion about sizes and spice levels, I completed my order of kung pow beef and an egg roll. I was a little nervous when they didn’t take down my name or confirm my phone number, but hoped for the best and headed down the street for pick up. Originally, my plan was to dine in but unfortunately I didn’t have time. When I arrived I saw who I assumed was the lady who took my order. She confirmed my assumption by somehow matching my face to my phone voice, knowing that I was the one who ordered the kung pow beef. I should note that I wasn’t the only person there. I waited for a few minutes, admiring their wares(boxes of tea and chop sticks), until my kung pow beef was ready. You may have noticed that originally I mentioned an egg roll and now I’m ignoring that egg roll. This is because I never got the egg roll. No big deal. Anyways, as I left I admired the building for its reluctance to change or update a single thing. The sign in front of the restaurant claims they have been open for over 100 years, which is insane. Name another Chinese take out that’s been open for over 100 years…. I took the food home and opened the box (I this is when I realized there was no egg roll). They also included soy sauce, a plastic fork, rice and saltine crackers for some reason. I ordered medium spice and it was about as medium as medium gets. Lots of veggies, fresh rice, quality meat, and excellent sauce. It looked nothing like the kung pow beef I’ve eaten in the past, but not in a bad way. Now that I think about it I don’t even know if I’ve ever even had kung pow beef, I think i usually get kung pow chicken. Anyways it was good. I included photos. The place is a perfect cheap Chinese take out. You can’t get more Chinese take out than Pekin Pavilion. You may get some weird vibes from the exterior and the bulletproof shield between the workers and you, but give it a shot and you won’t regret it.
