I thought the food was great. We had a bit of a sampler of their popular items and there wasn’t a bad dish or cocktail in the bunch. We were there on a Thursday evening and they weren’t very busy. I thought that was surprising because the food was so good. They may have a big carryout or delivery business. The space is pretty cool with dining on the second floor. And, the staff was quite friendly and efficient. Would definitely go back and explore more of the menu.

My partner and I love some spicy food around Houston, and are glad to find something so good in the inner loop! We had the Adam and Eve, Mama’s Pork Belly Tofu, and Sichuan Chili Chicken (if you like your fried chicken cubes a little sweeter, this is the way to go). Overall our waitress was friendly, food was perfectly spiced for us, and we are excited to come back and try more!

I would love to give a 5 star review but not possible at this time. The food was actually very delicious and the portions were generous but the service was so GOD AWFUL. There was only one server for 11 tables. The owner (the Asian lady) never engaged any of the tables other than to drop off food and run off. We were here for over 2 hours. When we ordered soup dumplings, they said it would be 20 minutes for that. After 1 hour and watching about 5 tables who arrived after us receive their order of soup dumplings I became outraged and complained for the third time. This place is severely understaffed and extremely inefficient. None of the tables were bussed while we were there so no tables turned during the entire dinner time. No concessions or apologies were made for the amount of time we had to wait. I don’t really think the owner cared. Unless they hire more people and improve their processes, I will not be back or recommend this place to anyone.

Had an absolutely delightful meal at Peony & Crane. If you enjoy Chinese Hunan style dishes you will love it here. Each dish was well made, from your staples like steamed dumpling to wonton soup (which had a broth that had a surprisingly delicious complexity), to the spicy beef dishes. Cocktails were also great. I’m only sad I was too full to try out more dishes, we will be back!

Food was really delicious and authentic. Lots of veggie options. Our waiter was very attentive and service was rather fast during the week. Servings are generous. I give them 4 Stars because it’s pricey and our cocktails were just ok.

A new hidden gem in the heights. We ordered the soup dumplings, pan seared buns, savory affair, and DP Chicken. If you don’t like spicy food order the soup dumplings and pan seared dumplings. Pan seared is similar to the soup dumplings, but has a doughy bun on the outside. Both come with soy sauce with ginger to dip your dumplings and buns in. I highly recommend that you make sure to get a piece of ginger on your dumpling, because it added an extra bit of amazing to the dumpling. Make sure to poke a hole before biting in. The savory affair is a veggie plate with spicy peppers. If you can’t handle the heat you might want to ask if they can do no spicy peppers. The DP Chicken is for the Sichuan peppercorn lovers who like the odd tongue numbing spice. I read a review saying the dishes lack flavor and honestly I think he left a review for the wrong place because everything was so flavorful. I’m excited to come back for the peking duck, I was excited once I saw the menu. Definitely will become a regular here.

Great food! We had the hot&sour soup, chick dumplings and pepper chicken and fried rice. All very good. The only problem with this restaurant are the hugely UNCOMFORTABLE chairs for seating. They are a slab of wood and no backs. The discomfort makes you want to eat fast and get out to get back relief

We are so thrilled to have them in the heights. The dumplings, wonton and bao were all delicious + the service was outstanding. This will without a doubt be our go to from now on! Well done Peony & Crane!
