We are glad that we were able to make a last minute reservation on mother’s day lunch on the day of, that’s really hard to come by. Although the restaurant was pretty busy, the waitress was very attentive & super helpful and nice. Same goes with the bus boy and the food runners. This was our 2nd time in Perla Negra, both times the food were delicious & same standard each time. The varieties of cocktails also very appreciated.

The best in the Midwest. I’ve travels all over the U.S and I can say that La Perla Negra is a must visit place. I make the 7 hour drive just for the empanadas de camarón. Good atmosphere and it’s a place that you can actually enjoy the food without distractions from loud music. Highly recommended.

Yesterday (8/7/23) I took my mom and daughter out for dinner. When we walked in, there was only a couple sitting down having drinks and eating. We sat ourselves down and waited for the waitress, whom was alone. We waited for 10 minutes to receive menus and never received water. She came back 10 minutes later and brought our drinks. When she took our order she did not write it down on anything. She left and a party of 7 came in and then a party of 9. 20 minutes passed and I saw her come out of the kitchen and I told my mom, the food is coming. It did not. She stopped at the party of 7 table and gave them their food. 7 people had their food before us. In one of her trips to that table she saw me look at her and came to our table. Never did she say anything prior to that about how long we were waiting. I asked her why that party of 7 had received their food before us. She said they called their order in over the phone. I definitely felt she was lying. 10 minutes and she brings out cheese enchiladas. The tortillas ware raw, the enchiladas and rice were cold. The beans were the only item on the plate steaming hot. I asked about my daughter’s chicken tenders and she said they were finishing them up. By then she had 2 couples, a man at the bar and a party of 3 behind us. All she took care of were the drinks at the bar. I was ready to walk out and pay for the drinks and enchiladas when I saw her coming back with our food. She gave my mom and daughter their food. When she came back with my dish, it was the wrong one. Another 15 minutes for my food which, I feel was rushed because she forgot to put our order in from the very beginning. After our food was given she asked twice how everything was and then at the end if we needed any boxes. She was very quick to hand the bill at the end though. She didn’t forget about that!!! I paid online because she was at the bar making drinks. I walked to the bar and she had her back turned to me so i decided to ask the party of 7 if they had placed their order over the phone and they said they did not. When I handed her the bill book I told her I paid online and walked away. Then I stopped and walked back over to her. I said, next time I’d appreciate it if you were honest with me and just tell me that you forgot to put our order in. To which she said she hadn’t. I quickly said well you lied about that table, and pointed to them, because they said they never called their order in and I walked away.

Man no lie this place is new to me but I loved it! Definitely gonna keep going. Papas locas are the bomb! Everything was on point! And there was only one waitress but I must say she was keeping up with like 10 to 12 tables! She did an amazing job and kept her cool at that! I seen other people lose their cool in a situation like that I think I would too but she didn’t! Good job and Good food!

Visiting this area in Illinois was disappointing regarding food. I hadn’t had a decent meal yet, then I found Perla and I never want to leave. The good is AMAZING and the restaurant has a homey feel. I wish I could eat here everyday. Order the ceviche, you won’t be disappointed.

Been coming to Perla Negra for a few years now and have always had great Food and Service. This past weekend was no different. Unfortunately, this past weekend I found an employee walking out of the restroom without washing their hands and walking straight into the kitchen. Didn’t get a chance to speak with our waitress to mention this to her as we were leaving. Hopefully management will remind staff of this highly important diligence.

I was really impressed, food was great, the staff is friendly, our server was Cassandra really helpful and since it was our first time here she advised us on what would fit our needs. The music was not loud compared to other places, i could have a conversation with my partner and clearly understand each other. Food was delicious and most important fresh, the only thing i was surprised that they marked guacamole at market price and we had to ask for the price (8$). Oysters yeah, what you see in the first picture covered with shrimp they have it under Oyster Special (that’s the name on the menu) they were fresh, what was weird for me that they did not had cocktail sauce for oysters, even on the side.
