The food and service was fantastic. You assemble your food in a bowl, adding whatever veggies, noodles, and toppings you would like. They have some meats on the self-serve line such as bacon, shrimp, spam, fish balls, squid, etc. Your bowl is then weighed, and you choose if you want soup or stir fry. You pick a spicy level. I got a 3, and found it to be perfect (I enjoy spicy!)

Really enjoyed this new addition to the neighborhood. The food is delicious and flavorful. Loved being able to customize what I wanted in my malatang and the spice level. Side dishes were also well done. The staff are really sweet and you get a lot of bang for your buck. We ate a lot and still had food to take home!

Korean style Chinese hot pot! A bit sweet if you go over level 3 non broth. But other soup was great! Wish there was more Sichuan peppery taste

Love this new place in Portland! As a big fan of hotpot, it was great to try the Korean version with the kdrama music playing in the background really setting the full mood! Level 1 spicy was just medium-to-hot spicy enough for me but not over powering! Can’t wait to go back

Pixiu Mala Hongtang offers a great “make it your way” experience, with helpful staff to guide you. Just be careful how much you pile in your bowl. Priced by 3.5 ounce measure, plus add-ons at additional cost, adds up fast. Also know they charge a dollar more per 3.5 ounces for stir fry than they do for soup. My first stir fry cost me $28! All said, the wide choice of fresh ingredients made for a great meal. I recommend more green veg and mushrooms, skipping the beef brisket, and being mindful that Asian taste can run a lot hotter than you may be ready for. Perhaps mild is a better place to start.

How could you guys slip on this place! This place SERVED. We had Mala Xiang Guo, 2 Mala hongtang, and Guobaorou and everything was so good. All the ingredients were fresh. It goes well with both rice and noodles. The soup was very good and rich in flavor. Perfect for vegan and fesco friends. If you guys really like your food spicy and enjoy fire noodle, go for max spicy.

It’s cool that Portland finally has a place that does this. I do like the ability to make my own stir fry/hot pot. There’s also a few side items that you can order. They will charge you by the weight of your food. I believe it’s $3.59 for 3.5oz. I did enjoy my broth, which was the hot one.
