Great place and great pizza! I grew up enjoying the Pizza Ovens in Adelphi and Calverton. When I return to the DC area I get a pizza from the original location in Riverdale. Just off the BW parkway. The friendly owner is often there to greet customers. Pizza Oven is a local legend to treasure!

Great food and great decor! Although I was a bit disappointed that they didn’t have the eggplant parm, this was my first time here and the pizza was excellent. It took a little longer than expected but the onion rings were among some of the best i’ve ever had (and i’ve had more than my fair share). Staff is incredibly friendly and prices are reasonable — they also have some deals at certain times or for certain combos. Highly recommend coming here as I’ll definitely be back.

This restaurant is a hidden piece of American History with great food. Cash only! We got to chat with the owner and see his love for the military with binders filled with signatures from each branch all around the world dating back to the late 50’s! The ceiling is full of hats from all over the US and even some highly decorated military service members. We ordered a couple of pizzas and my 3 year old son was SO excited when the owner was willing to play Disney songs for him on the sound system! We will be back!!

Food time travel. Once upon a time, when I was a child, the best pizza was at Pizza Oven. When I married and moved into a home of my own, the local delicious pizza was at the nearby Pizza Oven. Now all those Pizza Ovens are gone and only one remains. It is as I remember, wonderful and timeless.

Nice quaint lil throwback spot. The owner is a generous sweetheart! Gave me parting gifts and compliments; unbeknownst to him, I needed his kind compliments that one morning.

I grew up coming here now and again as a kid and happened upon it recently while back in town- so glad I did! Brian, behind the counter, has been there forever and gives the place it’s heart and soul. He has books for locals and other travelers to sign and designs little history lessons for those who care. They have a big screen tv which is not one of my favorite things- but under it is a stack of delectable children’s books. Memorabilia abounds on the walls and ceiling- much political from the presidential races over the decades. A timely framed newspaper from the day Nixon resigned is prominently displayed. The food: I’ve lived in NYC for the last 20 years so it’s tough to say it’s the best pizza I’ve had yet the flakey pizza crust is very reminiscent to the crust of the Pizza Oven’s younger days. I love the fact that the medium pie is in a square pan- always was. And the small pie can be taken out uncooked with a deposit for the pan. Genius. They run insane specials Sunday, Monday and Tuesday where you can get a good sized slider of pulled pork with your choice of homemade, in house barbeque sauces- my favorite is the one with Maple syrup- though it’s the only one I’ve tried. They have home-made coleslaw which they’ll gladly pile on top. $1.58 I believe- or 3 sliders with 2 sides and a drink for $4.79. And then just when you think the place cannot get any better, they reward your cash only with change in $2 bills, 70’s half- dollars, and gold dollars. Who does that? What a pleasure! I found myself returning again and again while in town and look forward to the next time…. Please don’t change.

What an adorable hidden gem on our drive from Richmond, VA to New Jersey. We had our kids and needed to get lunch and stretch our legs, took the first exit we could after bad traffic, and came across Pizza Oven. Unassuming, this place is like stepping back in time with its decor. The owner was so kind and had us sign the guest book and gave us a free calendar about DC. Pizza was good too! Cash only and our change included a $2 bill and a half dollar coin! We will save those!

This has always been my favorite pizza on Earth, and the subs are the bomb too. There was a mini-chain of this restaurant in my home Richmond VA in the 60’s and 70’s. I worked in one as a kid. Some friends and I would make a 100+ miles-each-way road trip to this one in later years because we craved them so much. It was well worth it. Those thin-crust, rectangular large plain cheese pizzas are just the best I have ever had.

Stopped in on our way home from DC after seeing it on Google Maps. Very accessible – right off the highway with lots of parking. Pizza was delicious and affordable. The service was top notch and the owner treated us like family. This unassuming little hole-in-the-wall joint takes you back in time with its neat decor and leaves little to be desired. Wish we lived closer and could go back more often. 🙂
