My family and I ended up at this restaurant after we showed up at Kimberly’s and realized they weren’t open for lunch. I’m happy that they had outdoor seating, because we had our dog with us. The food was served pretty quickly and it wasn’t expensive. I ordered the lobster roll, which was pretty good, especially because I don’t enjoy mayonnaise. Besides the other two photos of food that I attached, which were the Local burger and fish tacos, we also got a caesar salad. It was normal. My parents complained that the burger and tacos were leaking too much juice, and three quarters of my plate was just potato chips, so that’s why it’s a solid 4 stars. I’m also a little curious about whether everyone got chips, or if some people got fries as the default side. Also, there was a nice bird :))

We were in the island 4 days and ended up eating here 3 times. We were very impressed by the food quantity, quality, and quickness. The lobster roll had a generous amount of delicious fresh lobster. The Mac and cheese was well made and came in a small cast iron pan. One of the servers said people don’t order the spinach artichoke dip enough and they are missing out… and she was right. Creamiest cheesiest dip served in a bread bowl. Fries have a nice salt on them. Our final time there one of us ordered the veggie burger for the first time-it was a strange taste and texture and looked as though it had freezer burn. The server told us they are not frozen so that couldn’t be the case and that what we were seeing was Panko. We asked to order something else which is not something we typically do and even though it was very busy, they accommodated and were kind about it. Nice indoor and outdoor seating options, bathrooms are private room/typical bar fare. Looking forward to coming back next trip here!

Used to love this place, but this trip was not the same quality. Menu was reduced to half the old one.

3.5 ⭐️ the food was ok. Not the best but not bad either. We got the Mac n cheese, veggie burger, steak frites. Everything was just average and the prices were a little steep. I don’t think I’ll come back unless there were no other options available. But I will say the ambiance is pretty chill and there are no complaints about the service.

This was our last meal on the island before heading home. We wanted to try something a little less expensive but still good. This was perfect! I’m terrible with names but our server was great! She checked in the perfect amount even though two huge groups came in right after us. The music was a great change of pace to what we usually heard around the island (I’m not a huge country fan) and the food was hot and delicious. My wife had one of the specials (Tuna burger) and it was amazing. We will make this a regular stop!

I went to this place last week and it was very phenomenal. I think the last time I remember going to this place was a few years ago. I don’t just love the food, I liked how there’s a secret convenience store on the second floor, which also looks very cool.

We were famished after walking to Southeast Light. We stopped on our way back to the center of town and asked a COS for his recommendation. Although a bit out of the way, we walked past many restaurants in the downtown area and found Poor People’s Pub as directed. Our initial reaction was a bit of disappointment. Having been out in the sun, walking, for close to 5 hours, we just wanted to sit inside and relax. The hostess indicated we could a) sit at the bar (no thank you) or b) sit outside (no cooling off in a/c). There was a ‘bigger’ table inside but she said she needed to keep that open for larger parties. We agreed to sit outside and then were seated at a ‘wine-barrel’ type hi-top table where we had to sit bow-legged for the entire meal…a bit uncomfortable. Meanwhile, there were 2 nice looking empty picnic tables that sat empty for most of our meal; about 10 minutes before we left, they sat a party of 2 people at one of them. If I had known, I’d have asked to be moved, but assumed we’d be told the large tables are for larger parties.

We got the veggie burger, the steak frites, and the Mac n cheese with bbq pulled pork. Maybe their fish or lobster is better but the food was unimpressive. The portions are small and the food felt very greasy and heavy. Fries were the highlight. Overall nothing to write home about.

The Poor People’s Pub is the perfect summer spot to get some good noshin’ fare. They have a great selection of choices, including one of my favorites, French Onion Soup and their pizza was very decent. (Hey, I’m from NY) The atmosphere is laid back. I had their drink special jalapeño margarita and it was outstanding. Very friendly staff.
