Delightful experience – delicious country style French dishes in a cozy setting. The owner, Bob, is very knowledgeable about food and also super passionate about New England history. So we ate well and learned a lot 🙂 The service was also top notch – personable and attentive.

My boyfriend and I went there last night. We sat at chef’s station and enjoyed watching chef perform absolute magic in his kitchen and with the staff. Chef flew within his kitchen and did so with the flair that only those who possess both love and skill of their profession achieve. He was pleasant when he interacted with kitchen and wait staff and was a gracious host to us at his chef’s station. As for the food, I have not ever eaten such perfectly cooked shellfish. His recipes are traditional French, but never boring. The flavors are deep, complimentary, and complex. We left there knowing we could never recreate his dishes at home. We can only experience this magic at Pot Au Feu, and so, we must return. Thank you, Chef and Tig for our experience.

Now I understand why Julia Childs loved Pot au Feu so much. This restaurant is the next best thing to dining in Paris, France. From the French Onion cheese melting over, the large portion of Patè (can be shared with 4 ppl), to the rich in flavor entrees, and ending with one of their famous mousse dessert, everything is as it should be for the best French cuisine experience here. Take the time to look at all the French decor around the restaurant too. And I save the best for last. Thank you to the whole Pot au Feu staff for the best French dining experience by far.

It’s hard to stand out as a restaurant in Providence which has more restaurants per capita than any other city in America. But damn does Pot-au-Feu do it….and does it well. My go-to combination here is always the foie gras followed by the beef bourguignon then the pot de creme for dessert. Each of those three items are incredibly rich in flavor, cooked perfectly and makes you almost feel guilty because it evokes a sense of decadence. Wait staff are very attentive, patient and knowledgeable about the dishes. The atmosphere is intimate without that annoying ‘chic’ decor that seems to be so prevalent these days. The restaurant is unapologetic when it comes to their menu and as a foodie, I appreciate that very much. I’ve been fortunate to have visited excellent french restaurants in Quebec City & Montreal in the past but none of them come close to pot-au-feu.

Bob Burke has kept this place in tip top shape. I remember eating in the salon years ago as a child, but it won’t take me long to return. Our server was magnificent and even though I burned a menu (ooops!)she assured me that everyone does it- which is the true.

Quite possibly the best restaurant I have ever been to. Me, my brother and my fiancee came here while we were in town for a convention. The service was impeccable and the champagne delicious. We had escargot and pate trio for starters and a nice plain salad before dinner. I had the steak frites and it was cooked perfectly with an amazing sauce. My brother had a duck / sausage dish that was like a casserole and my fiance enjoyed the Pot au Feu and it was simply outstanding with amazing meats and phenomenal broth. The owner even came by to ask how we were liking our meal. I’d give this place six stars if I could.

Pot au Feu is by far the best French cuisine in Rhode Island. I’ve been going eating here since the early 2000s and highly recommend it to anyone who loves French cuisine or is just curious. The atmosphere is very nice. While it’s not super spacious – you have a wonderful personalized experience with your dining party and do not feel cramped. The service is superb; you are guaranteed an attentive, knowledgeable server who can help you navigate the menu. The food menu offers a wide variety of choices from house specialties to classics; the drink menu is impressive with special cocktails. I highly recommend Pot au Feu to anyone interested in fine dining at a French restaurant in an enjoyable, quaint setting.
