Eating from this restaurant was a harrowing experience to say the least. The so-called “buffet” lunch is weighed and paid per pound. I took a little bit of curry and some rice and still ended up paying 10$+ for the plate. About the quality of food, it is any where from bad to mediocre. I took the Breadfruit curry which was very bad. Honestly I don’t care if the food is vegan or MSG free (MSG in Indian food, give me a break) as long as it is tasty and affordable. This restaurant is neither.

Ignore the crazy 1-star reviewers, they are just trying to get attention. I have eaten at hundreds of Indian restaurants across the world, and this is THE BEST IN THE WORLD. The dishes are very unusual and are more like Goa cuisine rather than your standard North Indian fare. Local ingredients, PERFECT flavors, healthy, vegetarian, and really genuinely delicious. Yes the plate-weighing is a little quirky, but it sure does encourage you to take what you *need* to eat rather than stuffing your face with an absurd quantity of food.

Unfortunately I am not able to give ZERO star rating. Service was good but FOOD is far from real north Indian food. They don’t serve naan but serve paratha which I thought should be healthy but they end up serving DEEP FROZEN most unhealthy paratha which we avoid at all cost. Curry dishes we ordered e.g. Paneer Tika Masala was mad out of Canned chunky tomatoes with some Paneer in it without any taste. Vegi Korma was OK but full of coconut flavor and biggest chunky vegetables mainly Cauliflower. Funny thing is, the cost for meal was the highest I paid during my total stay at Maui and BigIsland. I was able to see two other Indian family seating around me getting similar unpleasant surprise. If you are really into Indian food, I would highly recommend to avoid this place. They are other good Indian food options around. I normally don’t write the reviews but I see my moral duty to write this so other people do not get trapped due to higher Google and Yelp ratings.

I wanted very much to like this place but couldn’t manage to eat the food. My husband ordered spinach and I ordered cauliflower. This was not during the buffet. We were the only ones here and we understood why when the food arrived and the paneer in the spinach was still frozen. I’m guessing either the good reviews are when a better cook is here or are by friends of prabha.

Firstly, most of the bad reviews say that the food wasn’t authentic north Indian food. But, when my family and I went to the restaurant, we found the food very authentic. My grandmother came straight from South India and my father grew up having south Indian food and he definitely agrees that it is authentic and I agree too that the food was very good.

Great finding a good vegetarian place late on a Sunday after flying in. Under staffed for the crowd, it seemed a crazy weekend for Hilo. All the open restaurants were very crowded. Compared to the other options in the city the food is very good and healthy. Very friendly waiter. Compared to Indian food in general I felt it was on the bland side. I would certainly give it a shot if you like Indian and/or are vegan/vegetarian.

Prabha’s was a South Indian restaurant which offers authentic flavours and cooking. In particular, the Palak Paneer, or Spinach with cottage cheese, particularly stood out as normally restaurants will serve overcooked spinach with no more taste, but here the taste was very apparent. The food, while not absolutely fantastic, was definitely good and would warrant a second or third visit. As an Indian, I would recommend this restaurants for Indians and non-Indians (the food is a bit more mild than normal Indian fare) wanting to try something different or who crave Indian food.

Wonderful experience. The curries taste homemade as do the breads. Being Indian, I know well Indian cuisine. I would highly recommend a dining experience here. The fresh flowers are a nice touch as is the music.

The cook here has no idea what Indian food is. For the first time, I found carrots in chana masala! Chana masala was had no flavor or taste. They do not even have naan. They just have Kerala paratha. I am 100% sure that this is just re-heated frozen food which by itself indicates that their claim of being healthy food is BS. The service is terrible. We had ordered. But after us, 3 people came to the restaurant but went away because no one addressed them for over 5 minutes.

Okay, so here is the deal. The food was pretty good. I had the ulu curry and my friends had the paneer, both were decent. However. Neither dish came with rice OR naan. You heard that right, folks. I oredered a saucy curry dish, with a pretty small portion ($12), and I had to BUY rice to go with it, for 2.50 or so. Ive eaten in a lot of places over the years, and not once has someone tried to charge me for rice with my curry dish. Unbelievable. I mean the lunch specials come with rice, but not dinner? For that reason I wont be returning, nor can I reccomend.
