From the team behind the famed Punjab Grill DC, Rania is our daring new vision that shatters stereotypes of what an Indian restaurant is and can be. Derived from the word “Queen” in Hindi and Sanskrit, Rania embodies the evolution of this 5000 year old cuisine into the 21st century. The kitchen is led by Executive Chef Chetan Shetty—originally from Pune, India, and formerly of the critically acclaimed Indian Accent in New York and Delhi (on the prestigious World’s 50 Best list). While inventive and modern, Chetan’s approach at its core is an homage to the time-honored culinary traditions, rich flavors and spice and agriculturally diverse regions across the subcontinent.
High-concept Indian cuisine presented in an opulent, chandelier-lit setting with a romantic vibe. Based on 130 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.4 stars. Price

Rania is not your traditional Indian restaurant. It’s an upscale Indian restaurant delivering, presenting food across india in a unique way. We tried restaurant week lunch here. Definitely a good way to explore the menu. We are vegetarian and there were good options to choose from. Our personal favorites were the barley salad, summer squash mangalorian curry (very unique way of presenting some traditional flavors – must try) we also loved the kasar mango dessert. We ended ordering a cappuccino as well which hit the spot. Overall, flavors & presentation 9/10. I took the 1 point away coz I felt they could have done more justice to the aloo chaat. It was a little too mushy, could have been better with a little bit more texture. Ambiance is 10/10, service: my husband felt could be little less intimidating for lack of a better word. Overall, we enjoyed our experience and would definitely come back.

The food was amazing. Everything was seasoned really well. I loved every dish that I got. The fried shrimp and lamb were my favorites. The drinks are fun and delicious as well. Great service and loved the decor.

As someone who has previously only experienced Indian cuisine in the form of takeout. This restaurant was very refreshing to dine at. They bring an elevated spin to some of India’s more humble dishes, which were full of flavor and left me wanting more.

Being an Indian I know there are many choices with a desi twist! However, Rania takes the food to a different level.

I’m Indian and have eaten Indian food in DC and other places and I have to say this was a great dining experience. My friends and I did the three course meal and we were full and happy at the end of it. Our servers were knowledgeable, friendly, and made sure to check on us just the right amount.

This restaurant is a complete new western touch to the Indian restaurants! You wouldn’t want to leave it because of the food, the service and the traditional yet modern Indian vibe! Celebrate your special dates with Rania, a luxury Indian ambience! They have a pre fixed menu ($75) for a three course meal and ($90) for the four course

We went to Rania’s for dinner on a Saturday night. I usually do not get excited about “fancy” Indian food…I find it pretentious and not worth the $$. But this restaurant blew me away. Every course was delicious and beautifully presented..a visual feast for the eyes and mouth. We were 4 of us and we tried a variety of dishes. My favorite was the beef nihari and the lamb cheela. Their portions are generous too. We were so full at the end of 3 courses, we opted not to get dessert. Love this place. Would go regularly if I could.

Amazing food! The dishes have got the authentic taste and they are plated well too. Portion sizes are sufficient enough so only go for a 4 course meal if you are absolutely sure you’ll be able to eat it all. A 3 course fixe would work for most! Cocktails too are excellently blended and exceptionally flavorful. It’s probably the best upscale Indian restaurant in DC!
