It’s an incredible revival of the old Rex, with great flare and decadence. The food and cocktails are divine. Southern cuisine done well with great taste. The menu is classic with a great twist throughout — there’s something for everyone! It’s a versatile space that’s lively and fun. Great for a date night or a gathering of friends for dinner. Has been my go-to when reservations elsewhere seems hard to come across.

WOW! What a hidden gem. If the doors were not open, I could have probably passed right by this place several times and had no idea what was inside. The atmosphere was incredible. The service was incredible, and the food was incredible. I went with three other people, and we all ordered something different and then shared, so I got to taste four different things, in just one visit.

This was my first visit. I loved the ambience. Our server was very attentive and explained the evening’s special, answered our questions about the menu and drinks. We went with the Special which was Grilled Red Fish over Grits topped with Grilled Shrimp, it was absolutely Delicious! We also had the skillet cornbread which didn’t disappoint. I will definitely make a return visit.

Absolutely delicious is the best way to describe the food at Rex! The flavor and presentation are excellent! The staff are friendly and very proud of their restaurant. They know the menu and make great suggestions. Cocktails are amazing. The entree portions are very large, so order one side to share. The cornbread is sweet and rustic, and pairs well with spicy food.

In an old theatre building, Rex is a stunning restaurant. With southern/Louisianan ties, the food is large and in charge. Highly recommend the fried green tomatoes were large (three big slices) with a spicy pimento cheese sauce to top it. For entrees, the Rex burger is one of the best in Philadelphia (trust me, go and try it). Massive, juicy, bacon, pimento cheese, borderline excessive amount of shoe string fries. This plate was fantastic. For the seafood lovers, get the Frogmore stew. Five large shrimp, at least four large scallops, seven (plus) mussels, corn, two large slices of grilled sourdough. This is a smokey southern seafood haven. The crab was not noticeable but a fantastic dish nonetheless.

I love the history of this place and had an absolutely fantastic dining experience here recently. The service was outstanding. Our server, Jason was attentive and made great recommendations. The bartender was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful in selecting cocktails to fit our palate. The stuffed trout was hands down my favorite dish. I also enjoyed the crab fondue, oxtails & oysters. I’ll definitely be back to catch the live music and for brunch. 10/10

My wife and I were having a night out in Center City and decided to make a other stop for a cocktail. We were walking by and I decided that we should stop by for a drink. The bartenders greeted us quickly and made sure the area was clean, we quickly realized that they had some creative cocktails on their menu (to give you a heads up they are on the pricey side). I had the casual economy, which I thought was pretty good and I was trying to remember the name of the drink my wife had but she wasn’t a huge fan. Didn’t have as much flavor as she wanted but it definitely was creative. You can tell that they make good cocktails based on the menu and the bartenders didn’t disappoint. I would recommend you stopping by and trying for yourself.
