Joe and Josie Riccobono opened the doors to the Peppermill in the Spring of 1976. The pair had already become successful restauranteurs who had owned the Buck 49 chain of steakhouses, including locations on Bourbon St. and the Riverbend on Carrollton Ave., and Rick’s Pancake Cottage on Canal St. Riccobono’s Peppermill was their first foray into the more upscale style of dining they enjoyed at many of New Orleans’ famous restaurants. It was also their first venture into the growing community of Metairie.
The concept of the Peppermill was to bring classic New Orleans dishes as well as Riccobono family Italian recipes to the city in a comfortable, casual atmosphere. Now, three generations later, that tradition continues to live on.
Quaint breakfast & lunch spot known for Creole-Italian comfort food like eggs Benedict & gumbo. Based on 788 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.4 stars. Price $$

The place didn’t seem to be as clean as it could be. The food took a very long time to come out. The atmosphere is fine but just a little outdated and quiet. I do not like that they have half and half cups on the tables instead of bringing you cream. The only sweeteners you have are packets of sugar and artificial sweeteners. The server was not very knowledgeable and had dirt under his fingernails. The bathroom needed to be cleaned. It was not worth the money.

Second time eating here. First time was for breakfast and I wasn’t that hungry. I had the “Eggs Any Style” which comes with potatoes or grits & toast or a biscuit. I got it with potatoes and a biscuit along with bacon. I enjoyed it too much. The second time I brought my mother here for lunch. We had the creamy crawfish dip as an appetizer. It was so good and big! I had the Chicken parmigiana which was very good! I loved the sauce. My mom had the liver and onions and she said she liked it a lot. I’ll take her word for it. Oh the service was great!

Solid 4 star clean breakfast spot. Has some typical egg dishes but also lots of upscale Benedict versions, etc., plus brunch type cocktail selections. Haven’t tried lunch or dinner there yet but I expect some above average fare offered then too.

This was the first restaurant I visited in New Orleans! I love Italian food and this place had great reviews, so I wanted to give it a try. The service and the ambience were neat! The food might look limited in quantity, but once you start digging in, you would know that it might make you order a to-go box! The starter baguette they offered was brilliant! I wanted to try out food from every category, but unfortunately I didn’t have enough space left in me for a second dessert.

Food was very good. Some dishes were not hot. Only had one lady with a man helping her but a large party came in right after us. Our party was six. Service was slow, needed more help. I won’t make reservations at 6:45 again.
