As much as I wanted to give this place 5 stars, I just can’t. One reason is because as my husband and I walked in, we didn’t feel welcomed. They seemed like they were in a rush to take our order. Another reason is because of the portion we got, we got the same order of the brisket which was the small plate but one was smaller than the other. We weighed it out once we got home and it definitely wasn’t worth $30 for only 2 plates! Don’t get me wrong the food tasted good but nothing to recommend to anybody. Maybe they had a bad day but still no reason for that kind of treatment.

Man (wheat alergy friendly) You’ve struck gold if you come to this place. I believe that this is the Best Smoked Chicken east of the Mississippi River. If you’re road trippin and want to get some true deep south cooking. This place is for you. Everything is southern cooking down to the bone. It’s gonna have you crawling back for more like a hamster on the wheel with peanut butter hanging all over the place. My only regret for coming to this place is that I didn’t order more of the catfish. I Catfished myself by not ordering more catfish. Shame on me. This kitchen puts Yankee cooking to shame. As it should. Quit the indecisive search and bring your hungry stomach down to this place. I would’ve taken more pics of the food, but the food hid too fast…..it simply hid….. in my stomach!!!!!!!!!!!! Close your phone now and eat here i tell you!

We love stopping at this jewel. Family ran home cooking that will knock your socks off. We do a lot of motorcycle rides up that way, and my stomach makes me stop each time. The staff are very cool and make sure you’re taken care of. I will stop here every time Im up that way from raleigh Riding harley davidsons. The BBQ I will state right now is the best in this area, if not the whole state.

I love this place and been coming for the last 5 yrs. On our way to the campground it is a MUST to stop, pig out, and get the pie to-go. This is the best smoked ribs in VA so far and the people make it extra special. Do not expect a fancy restaurant setting. It is a refurbish gas station and it is comfortable to sit, rest and eat. All you need is at the table. Fridays are rush hour so be patient and you will get pupping hot food. I always have ribs but they say their chicken sandwich is superb and also the brisket.

The food is wonderful, especially the beef brisket, hushpuppies, and homemade desserts. It’s probably the friendliest staff I’ve ever met, and they were very helpful with explaining the different items on the menu. The prices are so reasonable. This is now our favorite BBQ spot.

Today was all about the Ribs!! They were cooked to perfection. We also ordered Catfish sandwiches, they were delicious! If you’re ever in the area searching for a great place to eat, try Risin’ Smoke and you won’t be disappointed!! Great job guys!!!!

Very good barbeque in a friendly diner atmosphere. The time, brisket, and pork were good, even at 2pm. The beans, coleslaw, and potato salad were good, although a bit sweet for me. The 2 sauces were vinegar and sweet, both of which matched the meats well.
