We stopped in here on our way to DC and I wished we never had. There isn’t any cooking happening in this place and I’m pretty sure everything is coming out of a can. My mother said the chili was good but that is where it ends. We walked in and didn’t see any staff for at least 2 minutes. When the waitress finally appeared and greeted us, she was very sweet. She forgot to bring one of our drinks and when I opened the silverware I could tell she hadn’t had any real service training from the way the silverware had water spots all over them. When the food arrived I couldn’t believe what I saw. The most obvious remark came from my 4 year old, who eats everything but Brussels sprouts and when she saw the broccoli, she literally said out loud “I’m not eating that”. I sent it back and got her applesauce instead. I asked about replacing mine but upon questioning the waitress about the coleslaw, it’s just a premix. Hard pass. There is no cheese in whatever they are calling Mac and cheese and is just butter noodles that had been made crunchy by being stuck in an oven. I’m not sure what the mashed potatoes were but they were at least edible. The kitchen should study what happens to starch when it’s over cooked and then over whipped. I had almost ordered the fish sandwich but could clearly see from a table directly in front of us that when it came out it was a very thin piece of fish on a non-appetizing hoagie. I heard the woman ask where any of the toppings or condiments were. There was no lettuce, tomato, or tartar sauce and the waitress informed her that they served it plain.

Family and dog friendly environment. Patios on both levels make this a great place to stop for a beverage with friends (2 or 4 legged) and/or a bite to eat, especially if you’re hungry from playing in the James River, just across the street. The food is delicious and reasonably priced!

I don’t normally review but I thought it was necessary because of the bad review on this place that almost made us pass it up. This was a very good place to eat while passing through on our way to a family vacation. It was clean, simple, well priced food and drinks. They had paper table clothes that were perfect for my toddler son to doodle on and I couldn’t believe their restroom had a full changing table with diapers and wipes!! (I don’t think I’ve ever seen that at a small town restaurant). We enjoyed ourselves and ate a very good meal.

After a thrilling day in Buchanan experiencing the James river, my long time friend who lives in the town recommend that my husband and I try out this fairly new restaurant. It’s in the center of town, right across the way from the local river outfitter. The outside of the place is so cool and interesting. You can tell they put some effort into attracting walking tourists. There were even some really cool looking rocks on a solid display I had to wonder if they came from underneath the beautiful waters of the James.

We arrived within a few minutes of them closing. Needless to say they treated us as if we were the first customer upon opening. Great food wonderful service. Definitely the best hamburger I’ve ever had.

Stopped in Buchanan to try a German Restaurant which we learned had been permanently closed. Decided to try the River Craft Rail House, mainly because we liked the name. We were pleasantly surprised! Though not a very varied menu, my pasta was tasty and my husband loved his fried chicken. Our salads were fresh and good. We will stop there again!

Poor food quality, took an hour and forty five minutes just to get burgers and an appetizer for party of 8. Later in the evening when not real busy. They ran ouy of fresh ground beef so two of our burgers where made with thin frozen pattys and we weren’t offer a discount it even told that until I questioned why my 9$ burger was a McDonald’s hamburger. Our food was brought out 1 plate at a time and it took 15 mins to get all of our food out to our table. Will not go back.

The food was subpar and the waiter seemed as if some guy just walked into a random restaurant and acted as if he worked there. I don’t recommend it.

Good food, relaxing atmosphere, choice of quiet dining in the dining area, on the patio, or while enjoying the live music.
