They are crafty. Ask for a price before you agree to purchase anything. Our stupid fault really to let ourselves be taken advantage of – but we were most certainly taken advantage of. We walked in and asked if they were serving food – they said they had Navajo tacos – we said we would share one, and expected to pay and be told the price but we were asked to sit down and it would be right out. I realized our error after the food came – 15 mins later – it’s a rule of mine to never order anything without knowing the price – I slipped up – make sure you don’t do the same. Not sure what the price would have been – had we asked prior to getting the food – I speculate about $20 – but he asked for $20 for 1 taco – and only cash . He would be smarter to stop with the trickery and just be upfront and charge a reasonable price. For $10 Maybe they would get some good review and repeat guests – but we won’t be back nor would we recommend to anyone. Low quality ingredients also and bland.

I will never forget eating at this place. Talking to the guy who was taking orders was like a beginning of a 70s classic horror movie. The atmosphere there makes you feel like you might never make it out of there. I wouldn’t take my family there but if you have friends who enjoy strange places, Rat river pizza won’t disappoint!

I think I have only given one bad review. This will be my second. You would do well to avoid this place. Don’t let the upbeat exterior signage coax you in. There is something not right in there. I decide not to order after only 3 or 4 minutes of talking with him. My son believes that some customers who go in never leave and other customers are eating the ones who disappeared. Maybe it was a joke and we were on a hidden camera. Who knows. If you do go in just be careful. Somethings not right In there.

Mrs Noreen, PLEASE come back. We’ve been here twice before and it was wonderful, best sandwiches ever, but we came in a few days ago and were left speechless. After a minute of speaking to the man working there, we had to leave. Some potential customers walked in while we were leaving and immediately came back out too. Definitely something strange going on here.

The strangest place I have ever eaten at. We asked for a beer and were told we had to eat something to legally be able to be served beer. The man was friendly but had quite a foul mouth and behaved strange and somewhat erratic. He looked like he was a meth addict. However the pizza was not bad, served on real plates, with some fresh ingredients. The wall of the place are covered with notes and money from people from all over the world, which was fun. The beer was cold and the view from the outdoor seating on the rock after which the town Mexican Hat is named was nice.

This was certainly not the worst “restaurant” I have ever stepped foot in. The reason why I hesitate to even categorize it as a restaurant is because they did not even serve us food. A group of 6 of us came in for lunch, with money to spend and empty stomachs, but unfortunately as soon as we walked in I sensed this would not be a pleasant place to be at all. If you take a look around on the walls at the signs stating they will decide who they do or do NOT want to serve, you’ll start to understand. Then take a look at the (manager? Owner? Who knows what role he has in the restaurant) but when the man behind the counter gives you a frustrated, annoyed grunt when you ask for a table, it certainly doesn’t give you a good feeling about stopping at this restaurant for food. Nonetheless, a genuine looking woman comes from the kitchen and gives us menus to look at (including their limited, unappetizing options) for us to order. Then, after watching another couple get their questionable looking meal, the lights turn out in the kitchen and the same shady man emerges stating “the kitchen is closed. No more food” when we say the cook herself just came and gave us menus, he says “yeah, well she doesn’t know what’s going on. You should leave now”

Pretty much same experience as Bryan. Very hungry family, happy to pay whatever markup they want since options are limited. And I’m a generous tipper! Alas, “no food here” when people were clearly eating.

I just had an unpleasant experience over the phone with the man who works here. I was giving a courtesy call to notify him of a big group staying in town a couple weekends from now. Instead of saying “Hey, thanks for the advance warning,” he complained and refused to serve any groups (which I wasn’t asking him to do anyway). Read the other reviews; this wasn’t an isolated incident. This guy is bad news, and I recommend staying away. Try the Hat Rock Cafe or the Olde Bridge Grille.

Just like the previous reviews. TERRIBLE! The guy working there was on the phone while we waited to be acknowledged. Finally we asked the guy and he said he was closed even though the sign said open.

The sign said pizza, beer, salads, subs. They only had beer. But that was good because I only needed beer. The dude was helpful, told us about some spots in the area.
