Actually one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. I made a reservation with no expectations, we’ve just seen the sign when we go to the farmers market and with my mom in town thought we would give it a try… Wow. Josey was our waitress and she was absolutely amazing, you can tell she is passionate about the restaurant and about the food. She was so helpful and bubbly and nice and made everything sound so good!

Great food, excellent service in a warm and busy setting. They highly recommend reservations, and I agree based on our experience, but we arrived at about 8:00 pm and were able to get a table in less than five minutes. I would not show up earlier than that on a weekend without a reservation and expect to dine. The menu is focused on certain seasonal/regional components; expect a good selection but not an overwhelming array of options. We tried a couple of the daily specials, but the Saturday prime rib was sold out by the time I ordered (was kinda expected). Cocktails were made perfectly. Prices were maybe on the high end for the location (Harrisonburg) but worthy of the quality – we walked away with a $200 check for 1 app, 2 entrees, 1 desert, and 4 drinks, tax and tip included.

Loved the vibe at this cheerful farm-to-table restaurant. The atmosphere was pleasant, with friendly staff and multiple TVs showing various sporting events. My entire meal was delicious. I kicked it off with the beef and vegetable soup of the day which was quite tasty. I then had the Braised Beef special which was moist and plentiful. For dessert, I had the chocolate brownie which was warm and sweet. Glad that I had dinner with my family here while visiting JMU.

Fantabulous food, service, and atmosphere! A little spendy (well worth it), so more of a special occasion restaurant for dinners. The Red Snapper daily special was phenomenal. And three salmon one in our party had was the best we’ve had in some time. Reasonably priced lunch specials. Great drinks, too!

A great little find not far off I-81 in downtown Harrisonburg, VA. Warning, with all the One Way streets it was a bit tricky to find but so worth it. This restaurant is at the end of a semi-circle of restaurants in a complex called The Ice House. The pretty and welcoming holiday decorations at the entrance was a nice beginning to a very pleasant dining experience. It was an unseasonably warm, sunny day so all but one of the outdoor tables was taken. We were seated indoors right away and water was immediately brought to our table. Our server Liz was there within minutes to take drink orders and tell us about the specials. She was very pleasant, efficient and helpful when I asked for her recommendations. The menu is not large but there is certainly a good variety plus the daily specials. I chose a favorite of Liz’s aunt; the grilled salmon blt which is served open-faced on Texas Toast with a balsamic mustard. Delicious! My husband ordered the BBQ sliders. He claims they were some of the best he’s had. Plus, they were huge! 2 of them! More like hamburger buns than slider rolls. Served with a generous portion of fries. All condiments are by request and brought to your table on serving plates! Nice touch for a place that has mostly a bar/tavern feel. The building is obviously quite old and the restaurant has chosen to keep the bare brick walls and solid cement floor which gives the place an historical atmosphere. The beautifully decorated tree and holiday lights added some warmth and cozy along with the friendly hostess, servers and bar tender. The drink menu looks amazing but we did not imbibe this time as we were driving for a few hours after this stop for lunch. One last item, my husband is a desert guy. He ordered the brownie. Wow! Only my picture can do it justice. He said it was just as tasty as it looks. I highly recommend Rocktown Kitchen and plan to try drinks and dinner there next time.

Really great atmosphere, seems.to be a nice selection of wine with a bar. Was not too impressed with my lunch order. It seemed a little dry, and did not really taste like BBQ. I ordered the Pulled Pork BBQ with Onion Rings on the side. The staff was very friendly and courteous. What was lacking in the flavor of the entrees was made up in atmosphere, service and friendly staff.

Rocktown Kitchen in Downtown Harrisonburg is located with great atmosphere and environment. The chicken was packed with great seasoning and flavor along with the risotto. The sauce on the NY Strip was a great addition to the plate. Asparagus was nicely cooked. I asked for the steak to be cooked medium well, but I received something cooked less than expected. Mashed potatoes was delightful! Our waitress was friendly and pleasant. I am not sure how I feel about the pricing on the Chicken & Risotto for a small portion.
