I never write these but I’m a bit disappointed for the price verses the size of the sides is terrible. The sides are extremely small but cost about $3-$4 per side . The sides are literally placed in small condiment cups. Also the hamburger steak is completely red on the inside which I can’t really eat like that as a pregnant woman. I’m also allergic to pork and the cabbage has been cooked in pork juice this should be in the description. I took one bite and could not even eat it because it tasted like the juice weren’t from the cabbage but from pork broth smh. I will say though the mac&cheese was soooo good and the corn pudding… amazing! Sweet potatoes or candied yams okay nd potato salad okay just needs a bit of seasoning.

I wish it had a 0 rating option. Just left there picking up a $30.00. ALL meat was undercooked. The Chicken, Ribs and BBQ absolutely no flavor. The sides are totally disgusting. I would not recommend anyone to eat here. Pictures are included

These ribs are different from all others I’ve eaten & reviewed (in every way but not in a bad way!).These are spare ribs and are cooked differently from the others I’ve reviewed . The server explained that these are first boiled in their spices and seasonings. Then they are put in the oven with the sauce. I requested sauce on the side. These are much larger than the baby backs. These were well seasoned and VERY tender. Due to their size, they were also very filling. The collard greens were the ABSOLUTE BEST. I had some the other day in a different restaurant that I THOUGHT were the best but these collards are even better than those!!!! In fact, they’re better than ANY I’ve had in this area inclusive of all of the soul food restaurants I’ve tried! The hush puppies were hot and fresh. The bottle of SEASONED vinegar they put on my table was exceptionally good. The sweet potato casserole was good too. The banana pudding was fair but neatly made.

My husband was craving BBQ and he googled this place and we thought the reviews were good and the prices affordable. For our two meals we paid $40. They have a sign saying they upgraded their prices but I was surprised by our total. I figured I was overcharged but my receipt wasn’t itemized and only had the total(something I dislike). We were optimistic thinking the food would be worth it. WRONG! I got a sliced pork sandwich North Carolina style BBQ. What I got was two thick slices of a roast that tasted like it came from the oven, chewy and not smoked. I included a picture of it. The sides are in the tiniest 4 ounce cups that are usually used for salad dressing. My husband’s pork meal was full of gristle. Needless to say this is a one and done trip for us. The cashier was lovely but the food was disappointing.

By fat some of the worst food I’ve eaten in years! The ribs look either boiled or baked, they are gray colored and smothered in a red sauce that tastes nothing like bbq. Pretty gross, my babe almost threw up. The fried chicken was so dark and oil soaked. Completely inedible and had no seasoning at all. The fried flounder was basically a piece of fish covered in flour and fried in old oil. Paid over $50 just to eat 3 bites, throw it all away, and grab Wendy’s. SMDH…. save yourself the disappointment and complete waste of time (and MONEY) and EAT SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Ordered a pulled pork and they gave us a Carolina BBQ sandwich. Also ordered a fish platter and I don’t think these people season anything at all. The crab cake looked like a sausage patty, the hush puppies had no flavor whatsoever and dry inside, almost felt like I was eating a fried ball of sand. The sides are tiny, no seasoning it seemed like in the greens and how in the world do you mess up cabbage? The taste was very off putting. Worst food I’ve ever had. Won’t ever go back.

This was my 1st experience here this evening. It was referred to us so we thought we would try it out. Needless to say we were not disappointed at all. I’m not a barbecue fan so to see that there were other options I was glad. My meal was very delicious indeed. I hadnt seen the reviews posted prior to our visit but after reading them afterwards I was like omg, we didnt have that experience at all. We dined it and it was very pleasant. I told Cheyenne to tell the cook we njoyed our food

I ordered the quarter chicken with 2 sides. I chose baked beans and cole slaw. The coleslaw was good but the baked beans were too sweet for me.

Hadn’t visited this Newport News fixture in the 35 years since I moved from the neighborhood. But I’m back, so was happy to see it’s still open, tho no longer owned by the Parker family. The chopped pork is tasty, the hushpuppies crispy outside & tender inside, and the meringue pies made in the restaurant in 3 varieties. Old fashioned but satisfying. The “decor” is, um, 1940’s hole-in-the-wall, but I’m good with it.

It’s food.. not good food but, it’s food. Bbq pulled pork looked like grey goop. It appeared they used water and a stove top to reheat older pork butt. Long wait times. Restaurant has an out dated low budget appearance. Staff could care less. Kitchen is definitely not clean. ( as witnessed by looking through the kitchen door as it was left propped open) won’t eat there any more.
