Roost Menu – Houston, TX

Type : New American restaurant

Location : Houston, TX

Roost’s 50-seat space is cozy and unpretentious amid walls paneled with old shutters and Edison-like light fixtures fashioned from gutter drains. Roost’s rustic and diverse menu is revised every three weeks, inspired by local availability of farm-fresh seasonal ingredients and flavors of the world including the American south, Asia and from the Middle East, taking advantage of Kevin Naderi’s Persian heritage.

Taking his passion and the experience he gained staging at Picholine in NYC and Madrona Manor in Napa along with his work at Brennan’s, Haven, Soma and most recently as consulting Chef for Saint Genevieve in West Ave, at 26-years-old Naderi opened his first restaurant, Roost in December, 2011.

Cozy bistro dishing up a diverse selection of creative New American dishes in a small, old house. Based on 442 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.5 stars. Price $$

Bread service is great, especially the truffle butter. Loved the artichokes. They were so tender!

A most amazing small restaurant with absolutely delicious food. My colleague took us to this place for dinner and our party of 4 really enjoyed the fish and eggplant dishes. We took the advise of server and ordered the large pretzel shaped bread with most sumptuous butter cream and the fried cauliflower. The donuts ice cream reminded me of my grandmothers cooking. Really nice experience.

Amazingly fantastic! great assortment of wines. On our date, we enjoyed the chef’s taster before our three-course meal! Amazing polenta and cauliflower fritters. For meals, the chicken n’ dumplings dish was the greatest I’ve ever eaten, and the steak was sumptuous! While we are still waiting for dessert, we had to award this restaurant 5 stars. Will undoubtedly return for the changing menu!

Gave this place a try because I heard great things but was highly disappointed. Cauliflower was great but the bakes oysters was full of shells and very little pieces of oysters, if any. Fish in mole was okay, underseasoned. Porkchops was dry. I had high expectations for the Panna cotta because I love Panna cotta but man they missed the mark on this one. The passion fruit tart was just gross. Will never come back.

Came here for a birthday date. We wanted something not so crowded, more intimate and this place was perfect! The food was amazing, we really enjoyed the octopus & the fried cauliflower. The bread service was so unexpectedly delicious, I mean bread is great but this bread with the different butters and cheese was so flavorful! Sadly we didn’t get dessert because they were about to close & we felt bad asking for some so late but the coffee and donuts were really tasty according to our table neighbors. Next time, we’ll make sure we try it!

My partner and I came here to celebrate a birthday. The atmosphere is cozy and the service was pretty okay. We tried several dishes: fried cauliflower, pickled vegetables, oysters Rockefeller, Brussels sprouts, shrimp and grits, duck two ways, and donuts and coffee. The shrimp and grits, Brussels sprouts, and oysters were phenomenal, and everything else was good too. Although this restaurant isn’t at the top of my list, I do plan to return!

I made reservations for a party of 7 and our table was ready for us when we arrived. We had the bread for an appetizer based on other reviews and it did not disappoint. The butters were very good. Some family members had the chicken and loved it. Some had the fish and liked it as well. I had the ribs which were excellent. Flavorful and meaty. I also had the Thai curry shrimp grits. The grits were so creamy. The curry was well done. I had the pear and ice cream dessert and it was great. The pears were a little tougher than I wanted but would still order again. The whipped cream was very good too. The service started off choppy with it taking a while for us to put in our drink orders and food orders and needing refills for a while but it eventually got much better.

I was excited to try this restaurant with a group of girlfriends last night. The only positive thing about this experience was the service. Great and attentive service.

Creative, seasonal, locally sourced menu. Wine list is also fantastic. Love the Maison wines “New Noir”, a skin-contact Gewurztraminer blend from Oregon. Carla is an awesome server. In an older building on Fairview which reminds me of the cute cafes in Montrose back in the day. It’s an authentic place with character, not a generic chain restaurant.

Quite expensive but a really nice dinners. Service was perfect with nice explanation of dishes. Onlt 4 stars just because I ordered a 2018 Californian red wine, they brought me a 2020 version of it telling me they were receiving only that…but price was the same. You have to tell clients before bringing the wine…..especially if you have wine addicted italian needy clients!!!
