Great place! Food is authentic Ukrainian and delicious! Not too much space but hopefully they grow bigger! Drinks were also delicious! Make reservations before you go, the bar area is tight and waiting area as well. Wishing them to open a three times bigger place because people love this place!

Nice decor. The seating is tight. So be prepared to listen to other folks chatting on your left and right. Borscht was good. Reminded me of what my grandmother used to make at home. Vareniki with potato came cold and as somebody commented already they were dry. I had high hopes for this place, but the food wasn’t great, the menu seems limited, and the price tag ..well, the usual DC overpriced meals.

I recently visited Ruta restaurant with my husband and two American friends, and we had a wonderful experience. The restaurant is a great place to try authentic Ukrainian cuisine or to feel at home if you’re feeling homesick. We ordered several dishes including borsch, vinaigrette, deruny, holubtsi (cabbage rolls), and varenyky, and all of them were absolutely delicious. In fact, the cabbage rolls were even better than what my own mother makes!

Fantastic! The food was absolutely delicious, and I was amused by the cocktail names. The service was excellent as well–very attentive, but not overbearing. There is limited seating both inside and out, so would highly suggest making a reservation online. Very excited to return!

Amazing authentic Borsch (I just returned from Ukraine so I know what I’m talking about). Good amount of meat, loved the garlic pampuska on the side. Looking forward to you having salo 🙂 I also appreciate the way the menu is structured – it makes it very obvious that Ruta’s borsch is the must-try!

Great place with authentic food and great exported Ukrainian beer. The staff was very friendly: although there were no available tables, we could stay at the bar. Ordered a mix of varenyky (aka pierogi), banosh, and chicken Kiev. All were great! 5 stars!

Excellent authentic Ukrainian food and drinks; we ordered borscht, potato varenyky, Chicken Kyiv, and banosh. The staff were very friendly and Ukrainian. They made my Ukrainian friend feel very welcome and at home. Make sure to make a reservation to secure a spot!
