Another top place on my “Pizza Hit List” that I had opportunity to try. Decided to order takeout after long day of traveling and was glad I did once I got there and saw the line of people waiting for dine in!

The restaurant has limited seating with a lot of demand during lunch time due to popularity. Be ready to wait 1hr+ outside until you are seated. Strongly recommend calling ahead and just doing takeout. The pizza is delicious, the wait compromises the experience.

I am originally from CT and frequented Sally’s, but moved to WA (3,000 miles away) a few years ago, where world class pizza doesn’t exist.

Truly worth the wait. Earlier this week I went to a place that has such a great location they could phone it in…and they do. Average food, poor, uncaring service.

Stopped here on way back to NYC from Cape. Easy 5 minute on/off from 95. Literally the best pizza I’ve ever had. Also cool neighborhood near Yale with a great old school vibe. Guy in takeout area was also super cool and friendly.

I recognize that there New Haven pizza is widely known as being great. And Sally’s has people lined up to dine. My first impression of such accolades for New Haven pizza was… meh. It’s not to say was bad. But perhaps it is one of those cases where it was impossible to live up to its hype. It’s just that when you see 20 people waiting outside, one expects the pie from said establishment to be mind blowing. It was a good pizza. Just not waiting 30-minutes good.

This place is for the pizza lovers out there. Waiting in line to sit down and eat will take a long time depending on when you go. Ever since Dave Portnoy’s review, business has been booming. If you don’t care for the novelty of it, you do have the option to order to-go. There is a park right up the sidewalk. You can always go there. If you’re lucky, you might find a spot at the bench in the parking lot. Their Mozzarella and Tomato Pie is to die for! We got extra mozzarella. The red sauce just hits! We also tried the Potato and Rosemary Pizza, which was nice. However, it doesn’t hold a candle to the first one. The best part is that there are a few other popular pizza places not far away. You can make a day of it. We took the chance to go to Frank Pepe’s Pizzeria while we were in the area.

Sally’s was recommend as a must try for Pizza when we got to New Haven. I have to say we weren’t disappointed. This was our first stop (even before hotel check-in after a four hour car drive) This is your traditional pizza place four salad options so don’t expect to find other appetizers or pasta or meat entrees. Be prepared to wait in line outside, we arrived at 5:45 on a Tuesday (mid June) and waited about 30 minutes. This is an old school pizza place, don’t expect any fancy tables or tablecloths or fine china, booth style seating and the wall hangings and decor that is old but gives it character. Our server was came right over and was very friendly, you can order beer by the glass or pitcher, house red or white wine or soda. We had a caesar salad which was a generous portion and very tasty. We opted for a large pizza, half plain and half sausage and pepperoni, it was outstanding and we finished every piece. We will make this a stop again next time we are in New Haven.

This places lives up to the hype. Prepare to wait in line for an hour (pickup orders also a big wait) however, well worth the wait. The tastiest pizza i’ve had!

The best part of the pizza in my opinion was the sauce.
