Alan is by far the best sushi chef on Long Island. If you love your sushi and love wonderful service this is where you want to go. Sit at the bar and enjoy the wonderful experience. Check the specials you won’t be disappointed.

Delicious and fresh. Hard to find authentic Japanese food that doesn’t Americanize their dishes but this place delivers just that. Unfortunately it does have a bit of a price tag to match but that’s expected for American Japanese food. Overall been my go to spot for a while and will continue to do so as long as they keep serving delicious food!

I just recently visited Sapporo for the first time since they changed ownership. Sapporo was pretty good before, but it is even better now. The sushi is fresh, like usual, but they also added rice pudding to the menu. I usually only find great rice pudding at Greek places, but the new owners must have a background making it since it is just as great at Sapporo. The staff was really engaging as well. If it was not for the waitress pitching the rice pudding to me, I would not have known how good it was. I might stop by more often now just for dessert. I recommend everyone tries this place and their rice pudding.

Some of the best sushi Long Island has to offer. Superb presentation, excellent staff & comfortable atmosphere come together at this long standing authentic Japanese restaurant. Highly recommended.

This used to be my favorite Japanese restaurant but, lately I was disappointed by the quality and size of servings. I noticed that Kani sallad has more flakes than rolls. Miso soup bowls got smaller and smaller in size. Before each special roll was served in a separate plate with nice presentation and now the entire order of few special rolls was placed on one plate with zero presentation. The fish quality became pour. If you know how to select good quality tuna you could tell that it is lower grade tuna than it was before. I felt that more salmon was placed in each special roll than any other fish as salmon is cheaper than other fish like tuna or yellow tail. We ordered fried icecream for desert and it felt that the oil where the tempura icecream was fried hasn’t been changed for a month. The taste of old overcooked oil completely destroyed the flavor of green tea ice cream. The waiters are still very nice as usual which is the only good thing left about this restaurant. I

As one of the many sushi places on Long Island I found it intriguing that it would be in such a known location along Merrick Road and near any of the secondary highways / parkways. I may never have time to go there for dinner but, if I’m in need of a place for lunch that serves a variety of sushi and other items on the menu or specials. I shall choose Sapporo as that place not only for the food but for myself the little things – music, decor, and service.
