Beautiful summer patio atmosphere. We are gluten sensitive and enjoyed a GF Sammy’s Burger with sweet potato fries (best we’ve ever had) and Swedish meatballs. Everything was delish and we can’t wait to come back.

We were here for the holidays and wanted a really nice place to eat and was not disappointed. The restaurant is located at a very cool historical hotel. To be honest, our service was the best part. Our waiter was amazing! Very charismatic and funny. My sons loved the steak and fries. The cocktails were also excellent, and we were also a big fan of the brussel sprouts. My daughter ordered the deconstructed tuna and said it was probably one of the best things she’s ever eaten. I didn’t love them meatballs. My son said that was the best crème brûlée he’s ever had. Would definitely recommend if you’re in the Red Wing area.

We really loved the old hotel and the restaurant! The menu was a bit limited but the food was very good, our waitress was exceptional! I had the salmon and it was excellent, another had the ribeye and that was very good. We will for sure be back! There is a parking ramp behind the hotel for easy access and an elevator.

I was visiting this area for business and ate her tonight. The scarlet burger was one of the best burgers I have ever had. The bun was a wonderful texture, the two patties were smashed causing the edges to have some crispy texture on them. The onions were also nice on it as were the pickles and cheese. The french fries were very crispy and very well done. I also had the chicken and wild rice soup and that was also very good. Really impressed and totally enjoyed the natural lighting and feel of the place.

Fresh, seasonal dishes along with standards such as beautifully prepared steak, seafood and salads. The dessert trio was perfect for our party of 4 to share. Attentive service, good wine selection. Nice outdoor dining area and inside by the windows is beautiful. A great find!

Great food; ordered the steak and fries (seared to perfection), Cajun shrimp salad and Brussel sprouts (appetizer with plenty to share). Drinks were delicious and unique: ordered Lake Pepin mule and Cedar Lake margarita. Staff were courteous and demonstrated excellent customer service.

This place is such a unique gem in a small historic town. I love that Scarlet Kitchen and the St James Hotel played into both the grandeur of its history but also the modern flare of the present. I didn’t even feel like I was in Minnesota, let alone a small town in Minnesota.
