We dined at Selam East Africa during an overnight stay in Garden City. Highly recommended! We had the vegetarian combination. Staff was attentive and the food arrived quickly. The dining area is pleasant.

This place is clearly a start up, and a family business. The unusual thing is that this is an Eritrean family restaurant. Most east African food that we get here is Ethiopian. So the spices are a little different, and the bread is a little different. However, everything was very tasty, the red sauce on the tibs was excellent, and the service was perfect. Overall, quite a nice meal.

Just WOW!! We were in town on a work trip and decided to try something new . The gentleman at the counter.. maybe the owner? Seated us quickly. Even with a slight language barrier, he helped us order our food. Again just Wow! I ordered a meat option, my co-worker ordered the veggie combo. Both plates were so flavorful! The lamb is just right tender.

Excellent food. Great service. Clean facility. We were very excited to see an Eritrean restaurant next to our hotel when we got to Garden City. We ate the vegetarian plate. The injera was fresh and delicious and the veg items were tasty and unique from the typical Ethiopian dishes. The prices are very fair also.

The food was excellent! The lamb was wonderfully spiced and cooked well, although it was a bit tough. The injera was good, and there was plenty served. I ordered fresh mango juice, which is more of a purée, and that was disappointing and not flavorful. Maybe an underripe mango was used. Service was very friendly, although very informal. This is clearly a family business, but the kids and the informality only add to the charm. I’ll be back to try more dishes next time I’m in Garden!

Wow. Can’t say enough good things about this place. Service was great, but the FOOD. Seasoned and spiced to perfection — will be back. Loved the little “pancake” (injera) the dish is served with.

Excellent food and intimate place in Garden City. Spiced perfectly. Large dishes. Service is informal but that’s because it’s a family business and as other reviews have commented, adds to the charm. Recommend it for an international experience.

The food was fantastic. The person in the front did an excellent job of helping us pick out food, explaining some of the culture and being friendly.

Delicious, and portions are massive. Neither my husband nor I could finish our meals (#6 and #11). If you’re unfamiliar with traditional African-style eating, you may be surprised by not receiving cutlery with your meal. Instead, at this restaurant, you tear off pieces of the injera (an Ethiopian bread similar to a crepe consistency) and use that to scoop up the food, eating the injera with it. It’s delicious and efficient…but you’ll want to wash your hands before your meal!

Amazing, I’ve had African food in Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Asia. Food here is just as amazing. I hope next time I get a chance to travel to Africa.
