Family. Hard work. Darn-good BBQ. That’s what Shane Thompson built his business around. In 2002, Shane ditched his corporate job, tossed his tie and followed a dream with his wife, Stacey. He dusted off his grandfather Big Dad’s secret BBQ recipe and opened up the very first Shack in McDonough, GA.
It wasn’t long before the community noticed how he always gives people more than what they pay for and treats everybody like family.

Stick with the ribs. Customer service was ok but not the best. Ask if I could change out the chicken tenders on my sampler for chicken wings, (cause I’m not 4) and even said I would pay extra. They could not do it. Everything on my plate was ok the ribs were excellent the pulled pork was decent and the chicken tenders were chicken tenders, and the hush puppies and fried okra were good. Might be back for some ribs if we’re in town.

Extra long wait! Not sure why. I’m literally standing here after ordering over 20min ago still waiting on 2 burgers. I know they’re made fresh, but people have come, ordered for sit in, and gone already. A doordash employee was kept waiting as well. She ending up leaving without the order. The place isn’t that busy, maybe short staffed I’m guessing. Whatever the case, this is a problem, also my burger bun after nearly 45min wait is burnt.

I wish I could give a 0 but the picture will speak for itself, I order the bbq salad on my break which is just across the parking lot from my job. got there and it wasn’t ready not to to mention, I am 8 months pregnant so I had to wait 5 to 10 minutes before I got my food. when I did finally get it they was no toast like it had stated on line, got all the way back to my job even more hungry than before I get ready to eat, I literally had to damn near pick out every piece of lettuce, it looked really bad my stomach wouldn’t even let me try it. so I call told the manager what happened, she then says I’m sorry we will have a new salad ready for you when you come back, I said great thinking I was finally about to get what I wanted. that didn’t even happen the food wasn’t ready I had to wait other 10min to end up getting the same thing, so I told her just let me get my money back , my break was over I wouldn’t have time to eat it, she says ok took her 10 minutes to look for my order then tells me she can’t give me a refund, she couldn’t find my order but the ticket was there and I gave my card to the other employee, I see him Swipe my card I was very confused and upset and hungry at this point. she tells me to call the manager Stephanie in the morning and that was the only option, I still had 3 more hours at work so me and the baby didn’t eat until I got home around 1030, Tired and very hungry I am so upset this is my 1st time trying this place out and probly my last…

Great place! Food was fresh, hot, and well seasoned. The staff was friendly and attentive, including the manager who even helped someone to their car with their order. Although the staff is young they all seem to have a good heads on their shoulders and are so polite. The place is clean from the table tops to the floor. Good for sit down or take out!!

Ive been here many times and like the freshly cooked taste of the menu. Normally I haven’t had any issues here. Although, I’m not a difficult customer to please. On a Friday I was looking forward to one of their burgers. It takes a little longer to prepare but, worth the wait. I have a dairy allergy and can’t have cheese. It frustrates me when my burger is made with cheese. At some point the cook realizes the mistake and tries peeling off the melted cheese and over cooks the burger to burn away residual cheese. What is left is still enough for me to have a reaction and a burger that tastes like charcoal. This was the meal served to me. I couldn’t eat my meal and when a staff member offered to bring a box, I mentioned the mistake. She offered to bring something else but, I wasn’t interested. She took my uneaten burger and threw it away. Not an apology or an offer to refund my purchase. She just didn’t seem to care one bit.

I love the smoked wings here but what I will not tolerate is the fact that I order my meal today by phone and I kept receiving an attitude from the hostess or who ever answers the phones. When I went to pick up my food I asked about my coupon for a free sandwich and she told me it was for the big dad sandwich. So I asked to change my burger to that. She had an attitude about it and proceeded to talk nastily about me to another employee in front of me. This was not called for in any way especially when I was super nice to her and tried to make conversation with her. I will NEVER come back. I couldn’t even eat my food without thinking whether sending my food back to get changed out would lead to it being tampered with. Never again. Also the sandwich didn’t even have barbeque sauce on it.
