Family. Hard work. Darn-good BBQ. That’s what Shane Thompson built his business around. In 2002, Shane ditched his corporate job, tossed his tie and followed a dream with his wife, Stacey. He dusted off his grandfather Big Dad’s secret BBQ recipe and opened up the very first Shack in McDonough, GA.
It wasn’t long before the community noticed how he always gives people more than what they pay for and treats everybody like family.
Oh, and making the best BBQ around helped, too.

Boneless wings have too much breading and pretty dried out like frozen or made a while ago. Lot of the sauces have corn syrup which I don’t think humans should be eating. Beans and slaw were ok.

Came Saturday before closing service was great the staff was great y’all made sure my Husband and I had everything we needed to make sure our meal was good.when I tell you the 1/2 slab of ribs was so tender the bake beans & Mac & cheese was great.We are from South Carolina and we will be back for the great hospitality and service. Thanks again. Oh by the way I love those sweet potatoe fries they was great also! I meant to give y’all 5 stars instead of 1 sorry but I corrected my view!!!!

I got excited when I saw that they offered chopped chicken sandwiches(I don’t eat pork). I was sooo disappointed. The chicken had a slightly rubbery texture with a sauce that tasted like it was watered down. The chicken was kinda cold. I asked the young lady behind the counter did they offer lemonade to mix with tea. She said that they only offered coke products, tea and water(apparently she doesn’t know that they offer lemonade). My other half had to fight to bite a piece of chicken. He said that the ribs were really good. He ordered a shack dog to go 6.99, he paid 10.98(apparently the young lady wasn’t listening and put in for an extra hot dog). I laughed when I saw the dry chopped barbecue on it). A guy came from out of the back with his mask pulled down. To get a drink. I left my food and ordered a salad next door at east coast wings. My other half was telling his friend about the restaurant on the phone. I said don’t waste your money. Some of the prices are high for what you’re getting.

This was my first time there. It was suggested by someone familiar with the spot. Needless to say I was not impressed. I am not a fan of mac and cheese that is just cheese sauce over noodles. That is just boxed mac and cheese in my mind. It should NEVER be called mac and cheese. If it’s not home made and baked I do not want it. The baked bean had a good flavor. But they were a bit soupy for me. Sweet cornbread or Texas toast was needed. I asked for extra crispy wings but the fat on the wings was still too much for me to eat. I ended up giving up. I wish I had taken a picture of them as well. But I was just too disappointed in the entire experience. It just reminded me of a fast food bbq place at a truck stop. Not a place to revisit. Even in a pinch.
