First time visiting Shogun and I happened to stumble upon it on half price sushi Sunday. The wait was relatively short but it took forever to place an order. Our waitress seemed kind but scatterbrained and our small order took almost an hour to arrive. The sushi chefs were absolutely killing it though!

I really liked the sushi, it takes really good, I went with my sister and nephews and we loved it. I had California rolls and they were good, my nephew had spicy something which wasn’t too spicy so, I recommend it and would visit again. The only thing I didn’t like (because I didn’t know this type of restaurants do) they choose the tip themselves, and the juice was more expensive than the food itself.

Catastrophe

I’m sad to be writing this review. Shogun used to be the only place in all of Wilkes Barre that had fresh and quality sushi. Over the last couple years they started becoming very popular, specially on sushi Sunday. They cannot handle the demand. Ordering is a 90+ minute wait, which is understandable and I order early. The main issue I’m stating here is that the sushi is warm when I get it and the ingredients are bitter/not fresh. Also after my 90 minute wait this past weekend, they had the audacity to call me 5 minutes after my estimated ready time and ask where I was. Guess I’ll start making my own sushi.

A lovely and delicious, authentic take on Japanese cuisine. If you want to eat and watch your food get prepared, I’d recommend coming during dinner. If you are more cost-conscious, come during lunch for the lunch specials and sushi happy hour.

Great place for lunch or dinner! Sushi Sunday is also always a really great option for half priced sushi. We usually sit at a table to avoid the long waits at the hibachi table. Either way you will have fresh and yummy food.

So for 2 months we have been to 4 different places and I’m finally putting my thoughts out on this one. SHOGUN has the best tasting sushi and hibachi….for me and my family… Their lunch specials are another win with 1/2 off all sushi, which gives you a chance to try things you may not for a more palatable cost.
