This place did not disappoint! Vibe is great service was wonderful. Very clean, fast, and convenient. I got the pork sandwich with 2 sides. Pit beans and potato salad. If I ever get to come back this way I will be coming back.

With so many great reviews, I was not sure what I can add. But here goes: I love BBQ and Shorty’s is as good as it gets. The pork steak was thick and tender. The brisket was delicious as well. The sides were awesome. I loved the movie related decor. So glad Waterloo has a place like this!

Best brisket sandwich in Monroe County. When I moved here people kept telling me I had to check it out. People were right. Fantastic sandwich, and a smart selection of regional barbecue sauces (I went with Carolina mustard). Rich flavors, great composition. Great sandwich! Liked it so much I asked to take a photo.

This place has the absolute best BBQ. I have been going for years as often as possible. It is located in a historic old hotel building in downtown Waterloo Illinois. The brisket is great but my favorite is the smoked ribs, very meaty and almost falls off the bone. Closed Mon & Tues.

Food was one of a kind, delicious meat tender moist !!! The decor and environment were out of this world! The special talent, artwork , heart and soul of this place makes you want to keep coming back for more and more good experiences with the wonderful aroma in the air extra flavors of food that excites your palete that makes a party in your mouth type of food. The memorabilia ,woodwork ,and delicious smell in this place will get get all those endorphins going to create a good memory ! Brandon, one of the owners we got to meet, keeps place clean runs place smoothly and makes people feel welcome and right at home when you walk through the doors. He is a man of many talents.

We started out over at The Stubborn German Brewing Company first, not knowing we could get food here and bring it over. We’ll know better next time because both locales were great. Shorty’s Smokehouse had a really good combo deal which gave you a little of everything and two sides. The meat was smoked superbly and the three sauces they had complimented their selections. I cannot express how much we enjoyed eating here. I smoke my own meats all the time, so I’m aware of the taste, texture, and color. This place does a bang up job. Of course the smell inside is fantastic, but the actual decor to me was really nostalgic. They hit the 80’s-90’s movie theme. If you geek out about past movies, fads, or just memory lane stuff from this time era, get there. I even was digging on the design of the bathrooms. Very spacious, cool brick wall look and clean. I recommend and will come back when I’m in Waterloo again.

Great BBQ! We had pork steak and turkey, both were really good. Sides good but baked beans were spicy hot and slaw was a little sour. Very clean, great atmosphere and good service. You can dine in or carry out. You can also carry food over next door to Stubborn German, a bar that sells beer.

It has been a while since I have ate here. The last time i ate here, the food was really good. This time not much. I got pulled pork from here and it use to be so good you could eat it without any sauce. But this time, it was completely inedible. There was so much pepper in it, it made my ears burn. I tried to mellow it out with BBQ sauce but without turning it into soup it helped very little. I couldn’t taste any of smoke or flavor of the meat. I could barely taste the BBQ sauce i added to it. All i tasted was lots of black pepper. Completely ruined it and most of it went in the trash. I will give them another try later because previous times their food has been good even without adding sauce.

Listen – there are a lot of great BBQ joints in the STL metro but you need to do yourself a favor and come down to Shorty’s a few time and sample the menu. Their food is fantastic, the service is incredible, and it is an all around great spot to eat. Come on down!
