The Shu Shop has a smallish and delicious menu. This is one of my favorite places to eat before catching a show at the Lyric or Alabama Theatres. My husband loved the vegetarian ramen option and I enjoyed the braised short ribs small plate.

I was invited here for my birthday dinner, and I will say overall I had a decent experience. I ate the seafood Ramen which was pretty good but my husband on the other hand wasn’t very satisfied with his plate although he did get a small rib plate it was mostly bone and not nearly enough meat. I like the dark and intimate aesthetic but a few more lights wouldn’t hurt, especially to be able to see the menu at least. Also, the cocktails are good they’re just more expensive than they’re worth.

Fantastic ramen restaurant. I’ve never been specially drawn to ramen, though I do like noodles, and this place was recommended by several friends. It did not disappoint! We ordered kimchi and olives as starters, I think I would’ve preferred the olives to be cold rather than warm but they were tasty. The kimchi was delicious, I haven’t had that so well prepared in a while – fresh and tangy flavors! For our main dishes we ordered two different ramen bowls – the pork broth one (I don’t remember the names… maybe “daishu” or something to that effect) and the seafood one. They were both delicious! I particularly liked my seafood one, as depending on the restaurant, the pork broth just tastes weird to me – this was not the case at Shu Shop, they were both very good. The bowl comes with various other toppings depending on the type you ordered, it’s definitely filling even though it doesn’t look like there’s that much food (all that ramen is hiding under the toppings!). Now, would I have loved this much more had there been an option for udon noodles? For sure, but I can’t fault them for that, as they’re advertised as a ramen restaurant. So, although I’d change that to make it even better for myself, what they offer is fantastic, very good quality food, well prepared and served, the staff are very polite, and the place has a dim and really cool/elegant atmosphere. I definitely recommend you try them out, I’ll surely be back when I’m in town next.

It’s unique and stylish restaurant and bar in town. Our food was good, shoyu ramen was wonderful unless you like spicy I highly recommend spicy miso ramen! Snack fried squid was perfect with drinks. There were many ppl at that time. I’ll come back again !

The most stylish restaurant in Birmingham right now, without a doubt. One of the best cocktails I’ve ever had, the strawberry vodka/pink peppercorn concoction. Every dish we ordered was divine in both presentation and flavor. Service was fast and friendly. Ambience is dark and cozy. A can’t-miss in Birmingham.

This restaurant was the best experience that we had in Birmingham. It has a wonderful atmosphere, and feels like you are in an authentic Japanese tavern. The spicy miso Ramen was incredible and I would highly suggest trying it. There was a very long wait one hour plus but it was worth it.

One of the better places in the US for Ramen. The seafood ramen was outstanding. The Japanese snapper was delicious. They had great Japanese beverage offerings. The sweet and sour brussel sprouts are clearly a winner. Great service from the bar and really liked the vibe of the place.

the customer service of one the waiters were horrible. Not everyone in the establishment but definitely one and whomever the manager was on 8/24/23. I came with friends and the atmosphere was everything. Drinks were very good. Crab claws i loved but i ordered the pork dumplings and they were rock hard and nasty. I bit into one and instantly regretted it. I never not once asked for it to be removed from my bill but the waitress immediately got offended and told me “we don’t take things off the bill because you don’t like it.” She never once started the conversation with well we can remake it or anything just straight to assuming i didn’t want to pay. Will never return and I wish someone would do something about the way they do business and the manager should’ve been more helpful not giggling and blaming the customer like i wanted something for free when obviously all i wanted was edible food. I paid for my entire meal even though i didn’t eat it.
