Got to love it. Fresh fish place off the side of the road with outdoor picnic table seating. As advertised, The Halibut fish and chips did not disappoint. The chips were average but the Halibut was PERFECT. Absolutely perfect. So light and fresh. Good coleslaw too(not on the menu that I could find) mayo based but very light on the Mayo. I added a little vinegar and it was delish(I prefer vinegar based slaw). I also had the chowder and it was good as well but not on the level of the Halibut. The horseradish was spicy and absolutely delightful! Staff was friendly and efficient. The line was long(as expected from the reviews and word of mouth) and it did take a bit for the food to be ready but the staff was working non stop the entire time. The place is just that busy! Need to come back and try the crab, the salmon burger, and the catch of the day sandy.

Colorful building and picnic tables, right off the 101 Highway. They cook crab in front of the building and have an old-school fish monger vibe inside. The service is a little slow and disorganized, but it is worth it. You can have your order there or have it packaged to-go. There is also seating inside and in the market, which is open for easy access to both. The fish and chips were okay, nothing special. I was excited for the Hickory Smoked Salmon Candy, and it was YUMMY! The price is a little high for the amount that comes in a 4 oz cup, but it is so good and sweet. They also have a Dungeness crab cocktail, which is YUMMY, also. Watch out for shells, I got 4 shell pieces in my 4 oz cup of crab. And the cocktail sauce WAS SPICY HOT from horseradish! You can also order tons of different seafood. Would recommend for the experience and food. Seats are plus size approved.

I recently dined at South Beach Fish Market and I must say, their fried halibut was a true delight! The fish simply melted in my mouth with every bite. The Dungeness crab salad was equally impressive, with its fresh flavors and excellent presentation. I was warned the cocktail sauce was on the side and it would be spicy. True statement, it is a cup of horseradish with a dash of ketchup! I still loved it. A truly enjoyable dining experience. I will be back.

If you love seafood, this is a good place to get yourself a lunch or dinner. You have to enjoy deep fried foods, or don’t bother. The meal was hot, fresh, and tasty. 4 different items our group chose and all of us were very satisfied. Very generous portions too.

The candied salmon is incredible. Really everything was amazing. We were about disappointed by the clam chowder as it had the consistency of mashed potatoes. We loved the wild caught local fish and chips and of course the crab too.

Update: I was able to come back in this direction so definitely wanted to stop here. This time I ordered the Halibut, Salmon, Albacore and Chips. Wow. Did not disappoint. I don’t think you can go wrong. My favorite still is the Halibut followed closely by the Salmon and Albacore not far behind. If you are near by go. Line moves quickly. Worth the wait!!!!!

No MSG No Garlic Foodie
It was driving me crazy seeing signs of “Fresh Dungeness Crab” everywhere. South Beach Fish Market has a permanent sign that says “LIVE CRAB”. At our last night in Nye Beach, I had to come and check this out. Unfortunately, it was not very warm and only outside picnic tables were available, and we have to eat with paper plates. While at the order counter, I decided that I didn’t want to conquer eating crabs in that environment. Razor clams were on the fish & chips menu and that is a rarity where we live. I found out that claim strips are pre-breaded and frozen, while razor clams are freshly battered when the order is placed. So that’s what I chose. We ordered fish of the day with chips and razor clams and chips. The rock fish and razor clams were amazing. We really enjoyed the batter. HOWEVER, I don’t know what’s in the batter, two hours later, my mouth was still very uncomfortable. I can’t even say for sure that it was MSG, might be something else that resulted in such long lasting umami. I’m also wondering if there was garlic involved. Anyways, at around 7:30, I finally couldn’t stand it any more and had to visit BJ’s ice cream for some mint and coffee ice cream even though I usually avoid diary and sugar(!)

We have been wanting to go here for over a year now. Finally had the chance. Trust me, the line may be long but the wait is well worth it once you start eating the fresh food. Everything we ordered was amazing, fresh and so amazingly delicious. If your driving through or staying in Newport this place is a must….
