Went to Southbound over the weekend for a girls trip/birthday celebration. They took amazing care of us! We were given champagne and roses for the birthday girls while we waited and we were seated at the “chefs table”. Everything there is made over a fire so the chefs table was a bit hot but the entertainment was worth it! The drinks were amazing (Lots of espresso martinis), the apps were amazing, the sides were amazing and we had the best experience! The menu is updated regularly so I am unable to recommend everything we had but just ask the staff and they won’t steer you wrong! We closed the place down! Would recommend!

We enjoyed our experience at Southbound. The atmosphere on the porch swings was wonderful however be warned that we were waving off flies for the duration of our meal… Out of their control though. Our food was good. We started with the octopus, which was the star of the night. I got the duck and my husband got the steak. His was a bit over cooked. We got the BBQ marbled potatoes (which were just small boiled potatoes doused in BBQ sauce) and the broccolini. The drinks were a bit on the sweet side for our taste. All in all, we left feeling like our food was good but for close to $300 for the two of us, we weren’t blown away by anything. We both agreed that apart from the duck and octopus, everything else could be easily made at home. We aren’t in a rush to return but when we do, we will sit inside.

What an absolute gem of a spot! We visited Southbound in June for my birthday and were blown away by the attention to detail of our service and, of course, the excellent meal. So many thoughtful celebratory touches made me feel incredibly special, from a rose and champagne toast on arrival to a handwritten card at the end. Cocktails are awesome, we loved the ambience of the porch swing seating, and we thoroughly enjoyed every plate (especially the steak). The team gave thoughtful recommendations both on the menu and for nearby spots for a nightcap. You will love it here – a very special treat.

The best meal and dining experience I have ever had and I have eaten around the world. The open kitchen concept is taken to a new out-of-this-world level, and to top it off the ENTIRE meal is cooked over wood fire from appetizers to dessert! The cooks are so in sync with each other, it’s like watching surgery, ballet and top chefs in a ballroom. Because the space is small where the magic happens (and on display as soon as you enter the restaurant) it couldn’t function any other way. Head Chef Peter Booker and his crew are genius, their creations are literally the best I ever had! He is very personable, and his crew is professional and highly skilled. The service was impeccable. From the moment you step foot in front of the restaurant you are whisked away into a quintessential modern, southern dining experience. The menu is modern, and the wine list is impressive (I had a Tuscan red – outstanding). Don’t forget to order the mashed potatoes (insanely good!) and the s’mores. It’s difficult to choose a favorite from the menu everything is just outstanding. If I could give this restaurant 10 stars I would, and if I had endless resources I was fly to Southbound for dinner once a week! Bravo to the owners for turning an actual house into one of the coolest structures I have ever seen for a restaurant, right down to the cutlery which was made by a local artist. The wood fired grill/kitchen is an engineering feat like no other restaurant I have been in; there wasn’t an an ounce of smoke floating around the dining area (we sat at the chef’s table which is wrapped around the open kitchen – I highly recommend) so you don’t leave the restaurant smelling like a campfire. Run to Southbound for the best experience of your life!

Our first time trying Southbound and it was absolutely wonderful! My partner and I were celebrating our anniversary, and their team went above and beyond to make it a special night.

New favorite!…even among Charleston’s finest. This place is what hospitality is all about. Chefs are clearly elite, quality of the meats and ingredients is superlative, and service (shout out to Michael and John) was fun, friendly, and impeccable. Ambiance in an impressively restored historic Charleston home is classy and cozy. All five of us shared most of the menu and all agreed it was one of the best meals we’ve ever had from start to finish. Had an absolute blast, and been raving to all my friends and colleagues in the industry. Cheers to the whole staff, can’t wait to go back!

So we sat at the upstairs bar for our weekly date night. The food was excellent… the apps were pricier than we expected but the quality quickly made up for that. The ambience was lively with good bar seats that had backs! So very easy to sit for longer periods of time. The bartenders were friendly and engaging and honest my favorite part of the whole experience were the classic drinks made right! I had a Tom Collins & a Bee’s Knees- both drinks that can be ruined very easily. The drinks were beautifully crafted and well balanced! These were some of the best drinks we have had in Charleston (we have been living here for 10 years so we have had a few).

Soooooo delicious. The staff was absolutely amazing, we were celebrating a special occasion and they gave me a flower and a complimentary glass of prosecco. Our food was fabulous, 100% recommend the strawberries and creme dessert, it was amazing!! We sat up on the balcony. Next time we hope to get chefs table or down on the terrace because it was gorgeous. 10/10, can not wait to come back!! Parking was also easy and close.

Really beautiful restaurant! Really enjoyed the asparagus appetizer and the tuna was great too. We had a reservation for a balcony, but it was raining, so they seated us on the front porch, in a porch swing. We were so happy they can accommodate us! The swing is very creative seating, but not exactly the most easy to maneuver. I probably wouldn’t recommend sitting on the front porch on a warmer night or a night without a breeze because the flies were terrible. Absolutely nothing the restaurant can do about that, but somewhat dampened the dining experience nonetheless. I would definitely visit again, but would love to sit at the chef’s table. We also had shishito peppers, and those were excellent. Our dessert was interesting, but I wouldn’t say it was my favorite, I think it was a play on a s’more.
