A great lunch place! This was our first time I opted for the Thursday special – Southern Classic Pot Roast – it’s exactly like my mom used to make. Tender potatoes and carrots with mouth watering pot roast. Very nice gravy as well! My husband had Bacon Cheeseburger with jalapeños and pepper Jack cheese it was served on a pretzel bun – hit the spot (so make sure to take your husband or boyfriend). My daughter had the Honey Buttermilk Chicken Salad. It had a great sounding crispy texture she said it was delicious! The apple pie ala mode – had layers of fresh apple with a flaky crust. Definitely topped it off with the right amount of sweet.

We finally tried dinner and I ordered the chicken fried steak. It was the best I’ve ever had. The breading was just amazing. My son loves the chicken tenders and they use the same breading.

Their silk pie was the best I’ve ever had! The coconut cream pie, oh Lord Thank you for this restaurant! The crust on both was delicious and made us want more! We also ordered the Cobb salad which was huge and the Reuben sandwich was layered and had a great dressing. Anything you pick in this place you can’t go wrong. Can’t wait to come back and try more!

Place has only been open a couple of weeks when we visited. Very clean and all the employees behind the counter were welcoming and friendly. We had the fried chicken plates, French dip sandwich, strawberry salad, cherry pies plus St Arnold’s root beer. The mashed red bliss potatoes were not my favorite. They weren’t seasoned and surprisingly dry for a mash. The super thick country gravy helped a bit but not by much. The fried chicken itself was extremely tender and delicious. It was chicken breast pounded flat, similar to a Katsu style but using flour instead of panko. Recommend that for sure. Coleslaw was clunky and had a greasy aftertaste. The French dip sandwich is highly recommended. The au jus was a tad salty but pulled together with the sandwich, it ended up being fantastic. Strawberry salad had pieces of diced chicken that were over cooked. The cherry pie flavors reminded me of an artificial maraschino cherry. It was very similar to a food service pie filling or Comstock canned cherry filling. The crumble/streusel topping was soggy. There was a middle aged man who came by our table and asked if we needed anything. When we said we did, he looked so put off. Don’t offer help if you don’t want to interact or perform customer service tasks. We were being nice and not acting like a table of high maintenance Karen’s. After he begrudgingly brought back a beverage. We asked if there was anyway we could request another. He said sure and left. Never came back. If we never saw this person or talked with him, the dining experience would have been much better. He left us waiting so we went up to the register to order some additional items and another root beer. He was quick to tell us that the root beer price is per glass because it’s a brewed item . Lol everyone in Houston is familiar with St Arnold’s root beer. I don’t mind paying per glass but keep the snark to yourself when someone is asking a question. Overall, I’m slightly inclined to try this place again because the menu has so many interesting choices. I’ll probably wait a couple of months before doing so.

For starters I have tried this place twice. The first time I got carry out and they were out of croissant and substituted without permission white bread. The tuna salad was horrible and lacking pizazz. The second time I tried the restaurant “to go”. the quiche was overdone on the top and the burger was delicious on a pretzel bun and the banana cream pies were very good! The entrees that we ordered were delicious. They forgot our potato chips though for the burger that we asked for and paid for.

I ate lunch at Southern Dough, and I have already recommended it to all my friends! The atmosphere is such a cute southern, home-cooked vibe. The young lady at the counter was super helpful and had some great recommendations on dishes. I ended up getting a grilled chicken caesar and a slice of cherry pie with ice cream. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the salad was fresh and delicious! The pie was awesome and had a great crumble on top! The owner even stopped by our table and went above and beyond in making sure our experience was great! I will definitely be back!
