Was in the mood for barbacoa and this place had high reviews. Not sure why. Wasn’t bad, but not good either. Ordered the machacado con huevos al la Mexicana. The machacado had the texture of pot roast. Which is different. The barbacoa taco was greasy and had no flavor. The green salsa was great and so was the service.

First time here , even though we go to Farmers Market most Saturdays. I wanted the special but they were out , it was almost 2 pm and they close . I got a crispy taco , bean tostada and enchilada with gravy , and rice. All were very good . No chops and salsa , again they were out. I will go early another day.

THERE WERE ROACHES. I just want to make sure that caught everyone’s attention. We sat at a table by a wall and I saw two roaches crawling up within five minutes of each other. Out of my own admitted stupidity, I didn’t leave or make a big deal out of it. I was on a business trip and on my way out of town and hadn’t eaten since early morning. I was starving. Now I regret not walking out of there. I ate there today, 08/16/23, at 1PM. It is now 6PM and my stomach is in shambles. The food was not even worth it, it was as bland as it gets. I have no idea how this place is rated so high. Please do not eat here. I’m hoping it’s just an upset stomach and not food poisoning. Not sure how the health inspection is in Corpus Christi but I will definitely be looking into reporting this. I had the Cowboy Steak.

My favorite place for breakfast tacos. Their flour tortillas are so good. Everything here is awesome and in addition to their barbacoa, they are known for their Carne Guisada as featured in Texas Monthly Magazine. I always recommend this spot to friends or family visiting the area and they never disappoint.

Awesome!! Authentic barbacoa food, came here just for that. I will come back. Refried beans were delicious. Food came out quickly and service was excellent and prices are VERY reasonable. Although dining area is a bit small doesnt matter, you will wait for this delicious food. Dining area was clean. Staff are very friendly and respectful.

The portions were large for the price. The carne guisada was out of this world. The one thing was the tortillas were a little too thin for my taste but not bad. Service was excellent and waitress was on top of everything.

Southside Barbacoa serves consistently fresh and authentic Mexican American breakfast and lunch dishes. Homemade influenced lunch specials such as chicken mole are superb and remind me of my mother’s cooking. The Barbacoa they sell is outstanding. Customers who frequent the restaurant always know that the great customer service and the food will always be what they have come accustomed to.

So I brought 2 tacos (1 a carne guisada w/cheese & a picadillo taco w/cheese taco). Both tacos looked like they were limited of meat but more of juice & the PT taco had more ground beef & 2-3 small cubes of potatoes. Now I’m not saying, “Overload it like a grandma taco” but if Im paying $11 or more plz feed me like an adult not a child or elderly woman. Thats all Im saying. The service was good when it came to the cashier, but the cook -subpar for me buddy!
