Highly recommend this gem! Friendly couple owns and operates this spot. My husband had the fish and chips once and the Philly made with brisket the next day. Both excellent, “best I ever had!” I had grilled haddock, amazing! Delicious ice cream, as well. If you are in Calais, do yourself a favor and eat here!

Did not know of this place and stumbled across it after running a few errands around Calais. We were planning to only get ice cream but after getting out of the car and looking over their attractive chalk board lunch menu, we decided to go all out. All of this listed sandwiches sounded wonderful – such a welcome change of pace from same old offered by most eateries in the area! I had the brisket melt, onion rings and cole slaw – it was excellent! Highly recommended. My wife had the Cuban and my teen daughter had a grilled chicken BLT, which they both enjoyed very much. Followed up with Gifford’s hard serve ice cream – great choice of flavors and a higher quality ice cream than others. The friendly service at the window was also much appreciated! I spoke to a regular patron in the parking lot and she said it was the best food in Washington County – I have to agree! We live about an hour’s drive from Calais and we plan to go back soon! Top notch!

Amazing! The owner took my order she was nice and conversational. Was only stopping for fries but when I saw they had a brisket melt I had to try. Tender Brisket, chedder cheese, fried onions, and bacon with the unique addition of a downeast delicacy of blueberry jam and cream cheese on Texas toast. Wow! With hand cut fries and coleslaw with my favorite fancy sauce. I have a new favorite place to eat it the area!! Thanks you!

The name “Snack Shack” does not begin to give credit to the culinary creations happening inside this riverside eatery. In addition to the wide variety of homemade, fresh (not frozen) expertly crafted delicacies on the menu such as lightly battered scallops, fish and chips, fresh cut fries and hand crafted burgers to name a few. The Chef also comes up with fresh takes on classics and sometimes wild creations as specials each day so one can always be trying something new if they wish. If there is any room for dessert I suggest a milkshake made how it should be, with generous scoops of hard ice cream and milk. Not soft serve and syrup. The owners run an immaculately clean operation with incredibly high standards and they are missed every Fall/Winter when they go away. I suggest you get it while you can!

The food was great, the portions were pathetically small. Our triple scoop ice cream barely reached the top of a normal sized cup. Our fish and chips (sub fries for potato chips) tasted delicious but had so few fries it felt like we had to search for them at the bottom of our container. If you have the time go to The Polar Treat in Perry instead. They know what a decent serving size looks like and they are far cheaper too!

The fries and fry sauce are excellent and the fried clams are some of the best I’ve had. Service is quick and polite with a nice view of the river. Visit if you’re in the area!

By far, definitely the best place to get food or ice cream in the area. The Giffords ice cream always hits the spot, as does the wonderful sundae of the day. The lobster rolls, burgers, fish, and now Taco Tuesday are all the best. You can’t go wrong with whatever you choose to order.

Best tasting soft serve I’ve ever had. Ordered “dinner” for my mother and the portion was too small to constitute dinner. There are plenty of other great fish n chip places that serve a dinner sized portion. It was 1/4 of a normal fish and chip order in a tiny checkered square half box.

Glad they use hard serve for shakes, good flavor but maybe a little too much milk used, a little too thin for me. Haven’t had a chance to try the food yet but the menu looks great. Service is friendly
