A down-home cafe with good food and a great waitress! We stopped after getting gas at a very busy gas station — and it must be in town just enough that it was not busy at all when we arrived, so that made for a relaxing stop. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful.

While passing through South Dakota after visiting Mount Rushmore we was hungry and decided to try this place out. Ordered the cheeseburger burger with bacon and fries also had a couple of their chili from their salad bar. My friend had ordered breakfast food. Burger was excellent and chili was good. I think the interior of restaurant could use updating it’s kind of dull and gloomy. Waitresses was kind and friendly first time in South Dakota happy with dining experience at Star Family Restaurant! Yeehaw!☺️

We were driving through on our way to Minnesota from a weekend in the Black Hills and decided to make a quick stop to eat. We walked in as they were getting ready to close and still let us in. We were very thankful 🙂

Most of the food tasted fine, the sauce with the chislic was great, but my mom and grandma ordered broccoli cheddar soup that had gone rancid and sour but was still served to them. It was the last day this place was open before they closed for the season, so I guess they were trying to empty their fridge at the expense of their customers stomachs. Both my mom and grandma were sick within an hour or two of leaving the restaurant. They at least took the cost of the soup off of our ticket, but did nothing else (and still served it to the other people who ordered it after taking it off the salad bar –after the owner tasted it and spit it out in the kitchen) . Bill for two burgers and <10 small pieces of chislic with chili fries was still $50, so not exactly small-town diner prices either. But great old-fashioned feel to the diner itself.

What a tremendous little diner! We’re so glad we came out here with the kids. Great food (really impressive!), Fantastic service, and a value not to be matched. It’s worth the sight trip up the road from the interstate.

On a family road trip, stopped at this place because we saw a billboard and it was WELL worth it. Everyone in our party agreed their food was very good and staff were all so nice! The restaurant was very clean and friendly as well. Highly recommend this place.

Far less than a good meal. Overpriced for the end result. Somewhat dirty. After ordering, I decided I may want a salad bar and went over and looked. Most items were past being fresh. cauliflower was browned, lettuce was limp, and the containers of liquid items had formed a skin, and the girl ran over and stirred it while I was looking. The bathroom was dirty, with a sign to wiggle the toilet handle to make it flush. It appeared the person before me had a problem with it. If you could give a half a star I would. In the pic, the cole slaw is in a small ketchup container, that holds about 1/2 tablesopon

Perfect place to stop on the long drive through South Dakota on I90. Service was great and the breakfast burritos were good. The building and decor are a blast from the past.
