Steak ‘n Shake, a classic American brand, was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois, by Gus Belt, who pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milkshakes.
For over 85 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word steak stood for steakburger, and the term shake stood for hand-dipped milkshakes. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes.
Steak ‘n Shake remains the better burger leader, serving premium 100% beef steakburgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, thin crispy fries, and more. Steakburgers are made without preservatives or artificial ingredients, topped with fresh produce, and always hand-crafted to order.

So much more than just Steak and Shake now. Not sure why it’s not on the map. All sorts of good options here.

Food is greasy, but that’s where the flavor comes from. Also, it’s on the first floor of a university dining facility, yah, it’s gonna be noisy and all over the place. Gotta love it though

The food was all cold, the burgers came with ketchup and mustard on them which no one should already have condiments automatically on them, the chili cheese fries had no chili on them, and the fries were so salty that they burned the lips of anyone who ate them. The only positive was that it was edible.

I love the food, but I’ve gotten a Frisco melt without the Frisco on it twice now.

This Steak ‘n Shake is located on James Madison University Campus in the D-Hall building. The menu is limited, but it has the essential Steak ‘n Shake items – burgers, chicken strips, and milkshakes! Prices are about the same as a traditional location. For non-campus members, visiting may be hard due to parking restrictions.
