Great little sushi place. It’s a hidden gem. Ever since I stumbled upon this place, it has been my go to sushi joint. I’ve eaten sushi all over the bay area. Only a handful of those I would rate it 5 stars. This is one of them in that area. If you are into just rolls like 95% of the people then everywhere is about the same. But if you enjoy nigiri, sashimi and traditional Japanese food then don’t pass up on this place.

Sugata changed owners years ago and I stopped going. Recently I’ve given it a couple tries and it’s been great. The sugata bento is a great deal for $33. There’s enough to feed two people. The nigiri with the bento excellent as was the dragon roll and california roll. I’m looking forward to going back.

Quality sushi through and through! Sugata has a cozy and elegant atmosphere, and the staff are always welcoming and attentive. The menu has a great selection of traditional and unique sushi rolls, as well as a variety of other dishes. My go to is the 49er’s roll – I only wish the team were as good as this particular dish.

The sashimi here is among the best I have ever had. The staff is quick and knowledgeable and very friendly. They have a semi-traditional “tatami” room that seats around 6 comfortably with a dugout for stretching your legs. Make reservations early as they fill up fast.
