I was so excited to try this place and it lived up to my expectations! I love that it provides a new regional cuisine to the diverse willy street neighborhood. The no tipping model is awesome and the food was flavorful! They have a great happy hour 4-6 and the cocktails were creative. The staff was super attentive and they give you a welcome appetizer which was lovely. I have already recommended this place to several friends.

Crisp airy new restaurant that does not have tips for servers because they pay well. Two of us shared 6 small plates and a dessert. Highlights were the beet salad and Sheer dessert. This is my first Pakistani restaurant so I can’t speak to authenticity. The only dish we didn’t like was the naan which had a soft middle that seems uncooked compared to Indian versions that we know. It’s not cheap but not crazy expensive either. I was glad to be there at a non busy time because I suspect the place can get loud. They did a great job transforming this from Roman Candle Pizza. You feel like you are in a completely different space.

The layout of the restaurant is simple and open. The server was helpful and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, they were out of the cheese board, but it was Friday night, so understandable.

It is a very new place and want to give them time to get all straight. But this is my first impression. We order:

My husband and I made reservations for our anniversary dinner. We were seated immediately. The restaurant is “cozy” and a bit loud. We loved the food and service. Our biggest challenge was fitting the small plates on our tiny table. Great naan and we loved the cheese plate. Not really a great choice for large groups. No tipping is their policy, which is reflected in their pricing. But prices were very reasonable. With cocktails, we ate a substantial meal for less than $100.

I’d highly recommend Sultan when it comes to dining in Madison. I went here with my sister on the second opening day and we were shocked at how smoothly the restaurant operated. Neither of us knew what to expect because we had never tried Pakistani food, but we were so pleased with the outcome. The food is absolutely incredible, phenomenal seasoning, full of flavor, and well worth the price. The chefs put everything they have into the food and it shows without a doubt (shoutout chef Lane!!). The staff are all so friendly, informative, and accommodating. I couldn’t recommend a better place for a night out.

After reading the reviews that were all either 1 star or 5 star, I wasn’t sure who was lying. Fortunately it was the 1 stars that were wrong. The atmosphere is a little plain, but the service was fast and friendly. I only like Naan when it is hot and fresh, and the Garlic Naan was excellent. The Nihari (described as Beef Curry) had lots of seasoning and was delicious. I can’t speak as to how authentic it is since I’ve never been to Pakistan, but the flavor was delicious, and not at all greasy.

Wow! My husband and I along with another couple frequent Madison area restaurants. Tonight was our first visit to Sultan. What a treat! Wonderful Pakistani cuisine. We tried 6 menu items including chicken, beef, lamb and potato dishes and had four loaves of Nann. It was kind of like eating exotic comfort food. Very satisfying, flavorful and unique. The waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable in explaining the different dishes. The food was served quickly and hot. The restaurant decor is pleasant and subdued. We will definitely return, and we’ll encourage others to try this new Madison restaurant! Don’t miss it! Thanks to Steve for the recommendation!
