The chef of this omakase restaurant has worked in the city’s sushi scene for nearly two decades, paying his dues as the sushi chef at Morimoto, executive chef at (the now-shuttered) Geisha, and, most recently, as executive sushi chef at O Ya. At Sushi Ishikawa, there are just 24 seats, with 12 primo slots at the counter and the rest at tables with two menus offered, And Pham is going beyond raw fish — what’s served will change consistently, but expect the likes of black abalone with mushroom soup, hairy crab, and octopus with green-tea salt. — Chris Crowley

BEST OMAKASE IN NYC! This is mine and my husband’s favorite omakase place. We love that it’s not traditional omakase and it’s more of a fun fusion!

The BEST sushi in New York. Get in while it’s still easy and the best servers around, they make you feel so welcomed and taken care of and props to our lovely Chef Lin.

One of the better omakase spots I’ve been to for NYC. Caught a last minute reservation for last minute dinner plans with a friend. Arrived 20 minutes late due to the usual traffic and parking. The staff are friendly and courteous. We had the 17 course with some additional specials as well. I really enjoyed the experience and the atmosphere was great. It’s easy to have a conversation at the chef’s counter and great to watch them create the sushi. Our waitress, Emma, made sure to treat all of her guests with compassion and diligence. I would definitely come back again.

Each piece of sushi was great. For two people and one bottle of $120’ saki, the total with tip came to $600. Well worth it.

One of THE best values for Omakase dining in the City! Don Pham takes a unique approach to his art by combining traditional sushi flavors & textures with the earthy richness of foie gras, shaved black truffles and seared wagyu. Each bite is a delectable explosion of taste. The wine & sake menu is not to be underestimated and perfectly matched to the incredible cuisine.

This was my first omakase experience and the food was incredible. I cannot speak to authenticity but I really enjoyed myself. The waitress was so knowledgeable and shared facts about the courses. I am a fan of truffles and enjoyed their use throughout the meal, but I could understand how that could be off-putting for others. The wagyu beef melted in my mouth, I didn’t even have to chew it. I would definitely come back.

It was my first time trying omakase and I really enjoyed the experience. The service was excellent, and the menu set was very creative. It was very delicious as it was presented. I would definitely recommend this place if you visit New York City or live here. I can’t wait to dine inside. Very friendly staff and manager.

I’m beyond words. In terms of Omakase, it’s a decent bang for your buck. 17 coursed for $195. We sat at the chefs bar. We were able to watch the chef make our food. It added a nice element to the meal. They have a unique way of stacking flavors that I have not found at any other sushi restaurant. I look forward to dinning here again.

A unique gem. The magic of Sushi Ishikawa is in its creations. There is a keenness here to take the sum way beyond its parts. The chefs start with the finest quality ingredients and then they utilize their deep knowledge of food and cuisine to deliver us to a whole another level. They subtly add in a spice from Southeast Asia or a truffle from Italy, without losing the essence of Japanese cuisine. A 15 course Omakase is delivered by attentive easy going staff with each course complementing the last. Memorable among them include: a truffled ikura topped uni cracker, a chili dusted Kampachi. A miso lobster cavier that I still think about. And let’s not forget that aged delicate blue fin toro with a slice of truffle on top – you don’t chew. it melts. Its not cheap so think about it as that splurge you deserve. We visited the UES location, sat outside and it was very comfortable. Inside is a classic sushi bar, but you know the decor is not what you are there for. So there you have it. Fresh fish and seafood presented in brilliant complements and combinations. Creations that will blow your palette and your mind. Feast upon the presentation and then close your eyes and taste the delight. I have no more to say.
