Never had sushi like this. Absolutely outstanding and unique. Quality, freshness, atmosphere, service all top-notch. Perfect for a date night or just an evening out. The possibilities are endless! Even with so much competition on the street, Sushi Nikkei stands out. That should speak for itself!

It was a bit too salty and the flavors didn’t seem to blend well. One big example of this was the tuna shiso plate. The tuna was rather thin but then drenched in a very large amount of sesame oil and a salty liquid. It felt a bit like drinking a bottle of soy sauce mixed with sesame oil. I felt many of the dishes we had were too salty and/or overpowering in one element. In contrast, I felt the flavors at the Bixby location were very well balanced with the fish seeming fresher too. I also liked the smoky charred elements and balancing of textures at the Bixby location, two other elements that the Belmont location was lacking.

Personally, don’t think it is worth the hype. Got both sashimi tasters and Peruvian ceviche. Ceviche was so-so. Sashimi had good cuts, fish was fresh and prepared well. But for the price the atmosphere is lacking. Being on a main boardwalk in downtown gets a lot of foot traffic. Not sure what management could do but when dropping $150+ on sushi I’d rather not have transients leaning against the railing judging my life choices .

A fresh (to me) take on sushi that adds Peruvian flavors and spices. It’s really good! We tried hamachi tostadas, tuna tacos, tuna power, Asian shiromi, and the Oba roll. Everything came out beautifully crafted. I enjoyed unexpected flavors like oregano (I think!) and others. The atmosphere is upscale; we spent about $50/person (plus the tip). I would say the quality of the food supports the prices! Two things to note: something like 8 of 11 rolls on the menu have shellfish (and one of the remaining three is veggie), so if you have a shellfish allergy like me be prepared for limited options. I was also surprised they didn’t offer more beverage variety like chicha mirada (the one non-US non-alcoholic drink was Inka cola). All in all, though, this is a fantastic restaurant and a great spot for a date night.

Sushi Nikkei is my favorite restaurant in Long Beach and I was very excited to try their new location in Belmont Shore on the first night. The menu is the same as the Bixby Knolls restaurant and I ordered my usual lineup (grilled scallops, ceviche, Sushi Nikkei tasting, and toro) plus more since it was my friend’s first time. We enjoyed everything immensely and my friend said it will be hard trying any other spot in LB when she visits since she will always want Sushi Nikkei. Now we have two spots to choose from.

Amazing food! Got a ton of tuna and tried some of their unique fusion rolls and their spices edamame. Everything was amazing. Great service and fantastic food, with a clean space and kitchen. Great heaters in the outdoor seating.

Tbh the food was trash. We got the ceviche, acevichado roll, oba roll and the spicy edamame. The edamame tasted old. The two rolls were just poor tasting and the ceviche was nowhere near authentic. Very white washed place.
