Down home soul food restaurant in the inner city (southern sector of Dallas). There were many selections to choose from, the food was fresh and hot, service was top notch. There aren’t a lot of dining tables which leads me to believe that many patrons prefer carryout. I’ll be back!

We were driving in Dallas, and I was craving collard greens. I immediately looked up soul food and found Sweet Georgia Brown a few miles from our location. When we got there, my husband told me it was the worst part of town. That didn’t stop us, though. We ordered the one meat and three vegetables plate. The ribs were amazing and fell off the bone immediately as I picked them up to eat. The collard greens were perfect, and I couldn’t get enough. The beans and rice were on the spot, and my guy loved the dressing. I also ordered the sweet potatoes, but I’m sad to say I do not like the flavor of vanilla, and that’s all I could taste. Otherwise, the meal was amazing. The portions are plent, and that one plate I ordered can feed me for days! At the end of the line (its cafeteria style), there was an armed guard. It didn’t make me feel unsafe at all, in fact, just the opposite. You have to take it to go because there is no seating allowed. The lady who bagged our food at the end of the line was friendly, polite, and appreciative. We were so hungry, and far from home, we stopped at the park and ate on a blanket. Obviously, I definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for great home-cooked soul food made with love.

I purchased the smothered turkey wing dinner as usual. It never disappoints. I usually get greens and cabbage and mix them together, Mac and cheese and corn bread dressing. I skipped the Mac this time because the hubby and I usually share a plate because the give you A LOT of food and he wasn’t feeling Mac today so I selected the broccoli casserole. You get three sides so I pay extra for the side of cabbage.

I ordered the smothered turkey wings and they were pretty good. I was looking forward to the catfish or pork chops but they were out. The Mac and cheese wasn’t as flavorful, so it was just okay. The sweet potatoes were tasteful and cooked well. The corn bread was dry and bland. The price was fair for the amount of food given. I would try them again.
