This is one of those places that you have to eat at because it’s a New York Institution. There are many tourists from all over the world here. Several homeless people asking for handouts as well. Out door seating is available. Live music . Overall the food is good. The smothered pork chops were the star. The fried chicken was good, but not the best we’ve had. The staff was nice but the service was slow. Reasonably priced. Give it a try and you decide.

Sylvia’s offered delicious food, atmosphere (we dined in the enclosed patio) and great service. It did take a while for our food to be brought to us but it was worth the wait! The cornbread muffins are the best I’ve ever had in my life. The Mac n cheese was perfectly cheesy. I can’t say anything bad about what’s on the menu. I will be visiting again the next time I’m in NY.

The food was DELICIOUS!!! I got the veggie plate with mashed potatoes, string beans, black-eyed peas, and mac-n- cheese to go with the complimentary cornbread. It was so GOOD!!! DEFINITELY home cooking!!! Left us all FULL!!! The service was prompt, and the people were EXTREMELY FRIENDLY!!! Will DEFINITELY be back!!! If you’re looking for REAL SOUL FOOD and a GREAT time, I would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND it!!!

We didn’t make a reservation, so we had to sit on the patio, which was nice. Service was excellent from Amanda, but it took about 35 minutes to get our food. They did have a large group come in, so that may have been why. It was WELL worth the wait tho. Everything was delicious!!!! Next time we’re in New York, we’ll definitely go back.

One of the best culinary experiences I have had in the US so far. Starting with the cornbread, soft and crunchy at the top, warm with butter! The fried chicken with waffles was really good as well. I could say the same since my English is limited xD the ribs was tender and sweet/spice, so good! I will return after leaving NY. The music was good although a little loud but it didn’t bothered to me.

We were greeted by a friendly host when we arrived and only experienced a short 20 minute wait.

Free cornbread chicken and sides were very good. Service was below average but that’s okay, homemade local vibes. $21 for leg and thigh piece plus 2 sides.

Sylvia’s has been on my list for quite some time! I’m so glad that my family and I were finally able to go. The food and service were exemplary; every dish was just as amazing as the next! The manager was very attentive to the needs of every diner; we did not have to ask for a single thing!

I thought that this place was worth the hype. The food is way too salty (the chicken) instead of well seasoned. The cornbread is normal. To be honest everything that I order including the mac and cheese was very standard. It’s edible but I wouldn’t make a stop to eat here. I paid 30 usd for chicken and a waffle, mac and cheese and 2 little pieces of cornbread. To be southern food I was expecting an explosion of flavors… the staff was great, however they have the restaurant separate from pickup and I asked if I could eat in the restaurant and was told to wait outside on the chairs that they put on the streets ‍♂️
