I was disappointed with my visit to St. Louis’ Taj Mahal. I went for the lunch buffet on a Sunday shortly after they opened. I would recommend anyone visiting to go at least 45 minutes – hour after they open because the food was lukewarm at best. We also had to wait about 10 minutes for them to bring out the naan.

The lunch buffet here is a good value, but they only serve a limited portion of the menu. The curries/paneer are pretty decent, but lack much of the intense flavors that you get from traditional Indian cuisine. I’m a huge consumer of Indian food so my standards may be a bit high, but I certainly would not recommend this place if you’re looking for that amazing Indian dining experience. If you just want the basics, prepared fresh for a quick bite, then I’d recommend it.

Hands down the best Biryani I have had anywhere in St. Louis! That’s what I get for a take out sometime when I crave Indian food and the quality is always consistent. Not to be missed. The staff is really pleasant and polite. The service is prompt.

EDIT November 2019: I am so sad they closed. They said it was because they didn’t have enough employees, which strikes me as an odd reason to close a restaurant, but I’ve gone by there a few times since and indeed they have been closed every time. Goodbye delicious Indian buffet!

The atmosphere isn’t great but the food is good. The tables are small, and the separation between kitchen and dining room is very odd. The food however has a good spice level, and has good flavors. My only complaint about the food was that it seems like the chicken was cooked separately and then just added in rather than being seasoned and cooked in the sauce.

Taj Mahal is a wonderful hidden gem that I love to visit on the loop. It’s simply some of the best Indian food in the city and it doesn’t break the bank. I used to go once a week when I lived closer and always try to find an excuse to get in the area so I can have it again. I have tried a number of different items on the menu and have always been so pleased. On top of everything, the staff there are so kind, attentive, and welcoming! Highly recommend this spot to everyone I can!!!

Stay very far away .gave the one star just to b able to write this. Inside is so tiny ,tables crammed in the so called dining area. Walls were dirty with food spill, there is very unattractive dark curtain that separates the kitchen from dining area& is left open at the one end so they can enter/exit ,the kitchen, tables very outdated & unattractive. It’s a summer 90 degree evening & I felt no ac on at all in fact it was hot inside.can’t imagine even half the tables with patrons, just I alone with the crammed in tables seemed overly crowded.warning, bathroom says handicap but there is no railing anywhere & very disgusting dirty, looks like may have never been cleaned & no paper towels to dry hands.l

It’s an OK place if you’re desperately craving some North Indian food. However, there are better options out there – even around the Loop area. The service is super-fast and the quantity is sumptuous. However, the dishes, at least, the ones we ordered – a chicken korma and chicken makhani, were rather bland. They weren’t bad or anything, rather just “meh”. Given the (relatively) high price, I’d give this a miss. Unless of course, if you’re dying to get some Indian food.

Great food. I ordered Biryani, Naan, Samosa and Channa Masala… food tasted as close as possible to what you can cook at home. I cook at home and with a kitchen remodel project going on had a craving for indian food and the place didn’t disappoint me. Have been a regular customer since. May be this place isn’t your romantic date nite go-to destination, but if you want good food, I will recommend.

Welcome to Queens or Chicago! This little small India restaurant is a perfect spot to grab an excellent curry. Their buffet can fill up their limited seating but its worth the wait. Or you can go right before the noon rush or shortly after 1pm.
