Our Story
Jeff & Kathryn Remaley became the new owners of Tap House 1233 in January of 2016. They have continued the traditions of quality and friendliness, started by the previous owners, Larry Moore & Frank Ennis.
Serving customers 21yrs+, our excellent staff works collaboratively as a team. They take great pride in their work. Working in the hospitality business is more of a vocation than an occupation. Our customers are extremely loyal and supportive, for which we are exceedingly GRATEFUL!

Tap House 1233 is an amazing restaurant well worth an hour drive from the city of Chicago when I’m feeling lake perch or prime rib. No place in the city has fish like the taphouse. Be warned this is an Indiana bar that allows smoking but I come anyhow as the food is totally worth it in my opinion. The prices are extremely reasonable and you might feel like inflation hasn’t hit this place. I travel the world and this is my favorite fish. I’ve had burgers, shrimp and prime rib here too, all of it top end home cooking, not typical bar food. Definitely try it if you’re in the area. Only gets five stars cause i can’t give it 20*

I enjoy going out with friends for drinks, but hate how most bars just have generic bar food. The food here is high quality and a great place to stop for a meal as well as good drinks. The more you come here, you start to just become part of the family here. Owners Jeff and Katherine are very friendly, the regulars are so nice, and the bartenders/servers are great. They also have a pool table, do neat events, and if you are a bears fan, you have to come for the Sunday football games, you’re bound to have a good time and enjoy the buffet.

Came here for the first time last night (St. Patrick’s Day). Was very surprised that smoking is allowed inside . Didn’t realize this until the table next to us lit up after we ordered. Glad we stayed despite this, as the food (cod and walleye)and service were fantastic!!

OMG this bar has some awesome food! It’s a local treasure that serves some original and tasty food. Don’t be fooled about this being a bar, it serves better good than most local restaurants. We go here for st Patrick’s day and other holiday meal specials. Today we had their prime rib meal and it was absolutely huge and perfectly seasoned and cooked! Their Philly egg rolls with aus jus is an awesome appetizer as well.

I love the roast beef sandwich and French fries. The fries are seasoned and it is very hard to stop eating them. The portions are generous as well. There is good beer to wash it all down. If you are into dark beers, I recommend the Kalamazoo Stout.

Smoking indoors and no children allowed. We sought out a well rated local restaurant while traveling through but we’re disappointed we couldn’t try as children aren’t permitted due to smoking inside. They were kind about refusal of service.
