Had the Honey Ham & Brie Tartine with fries. It was good. Interesting taste to it. I’d try something different next time. Got there and the line was growing but they moved through decently for a non-fast food place with a counter to order. The décor seemed to fit with the restaurant and the space they had.

Delicious (mostly) food from the owners of Baru 66 (which is amazing). Beignets were bad, and the quiche is a bit heavy, but the rest of what we have had has been top notch. Soups are great, and the tartine’s and pannini’s are perfect for a light lunch. Very flavorful. Very glad this is in our neighborhood. I would encourage the owners to focus on improving the service. Wait staff seemed inexperienced and at times it seems understaffed. Biggest gripe is that when we go in we’re never quite sure if it’s going to be counter service or table service (I think they fluctuate depending on how busy they are). This creates unease in the customer, and it makes the beginning of any visit awkward. Not that that will keep us away. 🙂

Around these parts, it’s hard not to compare BBQ joints with Hickory Park in Ames. I think Hickory Park is like the scale against which all other places are compared. Shane’s is very good. I rank it as one of the top BBQ joints in Des Moines. Very good. Good value. Not sure how clean it is back there with the guys working but what the Hell.

Tartine is a great casual French restaurant. Excellent breakfast/brunch (quiche is a favorite).

As a French native, I like to go there to get their croque-monsieur. The food is really good and healthy, maybe a little bit expensive but it’s worth it.
