Entrees
Brown Stew Chicken
Brown stew chicken is a dish typically eaten for dinner throughout the Caribbean islands. The dish is called brown because of the distinct dark color. This deeply flavorful color is achieved by browning the chicken in a rich gravy. The most important piece of our recipe is how we marinate our chicken so that the spices truly penetrate the meat. We lightly fried our chicken until all sides are a deep golden brown. Once done, we add in the rest of the ingredients along with the reserved marinade. The stew is cooked with the lid on until the sauce is reduced by half and then season to taste.
$12.00
Curry Chicken
If you’ve never had Jamaican curry chicken, it’s time to fix that. Loaded with rich flavor, you experience the real taste of the islands. A perfect meal for children, curry chicken is an everyday meal. Ours contains Jamaican curry powder, scallions, onion, fresh thyme, and extra Trelawny love. Our Jamaican curry powder has a unique flavor due to the combination of both savory and sweet spices.
$12.00
Jerk Chicken (Spicy)
Jerk is a style of cooking native to Jamaica, in which meat is dry-rubbed or wet marinated with a hot spice mixture called Jamaican jerk spice. The main ingredients of the spicy jerk marinade sauce are allspice and Scotch bonnet peppers. Perfectly seasoned grilled chicken…significantly spiced, it is moist, tender and one mouthful of flavor. The “heat” level of the scotch bonnet pepper is optional as we offer two (mild and spicy). You can adjust it to suit your family needs especially if you have kids around.
$12.00
Jerk Pork (Spicy)
Traditional Jamaican jerk pork is made on the grill, but ours is roasted in the oven until it is tender and succulent. The star of the show is the ingredients used to create the jerk flavor. The pork butt traps in the sweet and spicy marinated spices and the fat content gives the jerk pork more flavor than naturally basted meat. Long, slow cooking on low heat brings out the juices and makes for a tender, more succulent cut of meat.
$12.00
Curry Goat
Our goat meat is succulent tender and rich with less saturated fat, calories and cholesterol than other red meats. Chunky pieces of goat are slowly simmered in aromatic blend garlic, allspice thyme, onions, and with Jamaican curry taking center stage, until the sauce is thick and creamy. All of the flavor melts into the goat meat and creates a really wonderful dish after a few hours.
$17.00
Oxtail
Oxtail is a-rich meat, slow-cooked with butter bean as a main dish (with rice)…most popular in, Jamaica, and other West Indian cultures. Our oxtails are rich with flavor, perfectly cooked until the meat nearly falls-off-the-bone with creamy butter beans. Our flavors come from onions, scallions, fresh thyme, allspice, and garlic.
$17.00
Steam Red Snapper
Lightly seasoned red snapper steamed with an assortment of bell peppers and onions. This fish dish is flavorsome with a hint of Caribbean flare. This is one of the most delicious, satisfying meals you will ever enjoy.
$20.00
Escovith Red Snapper (Spicy)
Escovitch is a delightful unique taste because of the combination of spices and balsamic vinegar. Lightly seasoned red snapper drenched in sautéed peppers and onions in a vinegar sauce. This classic Jamaican dish requires you to maneuver around those tiny fish bones.
$20.00
Curry Shrimp
Large and juicy shrimps, simmered in a hearty coconut milk sauce, infused with garlic, onion, bell pepper and curry spice.

$4.00
White Rice $3.00
Steam Cabbage And Carrots

I’m a fan of Carib Shack in Virginia Beach and have been searching for similarly good Caribbean restaurant ever since. After reading the mixed reviews I hesitatingly went with my family here today. My son ordered the small mild jerk chicken with side of plantains and rice & peas. My husband and I together ordered a combo of brown chicken stew & goat curry on top of rice & peas with side of plantains and cabbage. We sat outside by the beautifully painted wall mural. Restaurant is very clean and COVID compliant. The cashier is very friendly and offered suggestions to us when my husband told him that he cannot handle food that’s too spicy. The mouth watering aroma of the food hit us the minute we opened our boxes. The minute we took a bite of each item it was heaven! The jerk chicken was seasoned perfectly and the rice & peas that come with it had a kick to it. My son enjoyed his meal and the small size was actually quite big for him and he brought home the leftovers to enjoy latter on tonight. My husband couldn’t resist eating the curry goat meat which falls off the bones and is packed with delicious curry flavor. It was juicy and succulent. The brown stew chicken is also very flavorful and the chicken falls off the bones too. Our rice & peas were drenched in the curries which made it even more delicious for us. My husband also enjoyed the plantains. We both loved the steamed cabbage. I usually hate cabbage but this cabbage was actually delicious to eat. Each item had its own unique flavor and this restaurant proves food doesn’t need to be over the top spicy to be delicious although they do have spicier options available to those who prefer that. The curry goat really stands out for us and so does the jerk chicken! The portions are generous and the price is standard for the area restaurants. I’ve found my perfect Jamaican restaurant near me. We also purchased two rum cakes which we have not eaten yet so I cannot comment on their taste. I’ll update later. Can’t wait to visit Taste of Trelawny again.

This was my first visit to the Taste of Trelawny and the service was amazing, the guy was very kind and the hospitality was beyond superior . The food here was outstanding, I must admit. I ordered a large oxtails and curry goat mixed . Both were extremely tender. My only issue is the portion size. I only received four small bones for a Large oxtail. I was a bit disappointed. I’m sure I’ll visit again to try something else. My meal priced at $29.00 plus 7.00 for a super moist strawberry cake that was on point. Great job on the cake.

Ordered Curry Goat and Shrimp entrees w/rice, plantains, cabbage and coca bread. Unfortunately, it was not an experience that I will repeat. Too many bones in the goat curry and overcooked shrimp. Furthermore, the were literally only the proteins in the curry, barely anything else to make it a more full dish. Plantains were kind of plain, as was the cabbage. I really try to give small, ethnic businesses a try. This is meant to be constructive and to help you represent your country of origin in a more flavorful way.

We had the small oxtail entree- it was amazing! The marrow was just right. The portion of rice and peas was perfect. The staff are friendly. The CocaCola mix (syrup to CO2) was perfect too- that’s hard to find. Highly recommend!

So tonight I wanted some patties but the usual place was sold out as it always is! So I remembered this place and I got 3 hot spicy beef patties, a small oxtail with rice and peas, and 2 pineapple sodas! The food was so good, the oxtails and rice and peas were really tasty! And the patties were hot and delicious! I love that there is a good Jamacian restaurant in the area now! The prices were very good, delicious food, and so I will be back for sure!

Stopped in with my wife for beef patties, ox tail, and cocobread. Everything was amazing. The oxtail was piled so high in the take out container. It almost wouldn’t close. Absolutely fantastic food, and if you are not familiar with Jamaican food, an authentic Caribbean experience! Beef patties were flaky, crispy, and tasted like a piece of home. The cocobread was warm. Fresh and moist!
