Excellent food! Our favorites are the tri-tip sandwich and bbq half chicken. The meat is fresh, tender, and slow cooked with great sauce. They’ve added a few top-shelf salads to the menu, well worth trying. We love how they saved the old Malibu tile and brick. Comfortable little bar. Owners and staff are casual, attentive, but not in your face. One of Malibu’s little gems.

Two other couples there on a Friday for lunch did not bode well and we should have turned around and left. The food was not good. Meat was too salty and felt processed or maybe frozen. Come on! You have to stand out to be able to make it or at least do a couple of things really well. Was mediocre at best…won’t be back, sorry. We were looking forward to it…

Our drinks were great, but we wanted to sit outside since it was a beautiful day. But there are sea gnats everywhere and even though I had a coaster to cover my drink, I still had to fish out gnats from my glass at least 5 times.

I was there on the 2nd night they were open and my friend and I went by earlier to check out the menu and met Marco the Owner. We came back later that day for dinner and Marco remembered us and made us feel right at home. The food was wonderful and everyone did everything they could to make our experience fun and delicious. It was! Going back as soon as I can for another dinner or lunch! I highly recommend Tavern 1

We had excellent service here. We were traveling and had a dog with us but they let us bring the dog in and brought us a water bowl for him without us asking for anything. They had plenty of beers to choose from and great snacks to keep us going.

Outstanding chopped salad. They mix ranch dressing with their BBQ sauce for a light, yet savory tang. Chef hits the bunt cake with ice cream, hot fudge and lots of fruit and whipped cream out if the park. We’ll done Tavern 1 Team.
