Puerto Rican cuisine has been influenced by an array of cultures including Taino Arawak, Spanish, and African, and American. Although Puerto Rican cooking is somewhat similar to both Spanish and other Latin American cuisine, it is a unique tasty blend of influences, using indigenous seasonings and ingredients. Locals call their cuisine cocina criolla. By the end of the nineteenth century, the traditional Puerto Rican cuisine was well established. By 1848 the first restaurant, La Mallorquina, opened in Old San Juan. El Cocinero Puertorriqueño, the island’s first cookbook, was published in 1849. On November 1, 2004 a book titled Puerto Rico: Grand Cuisine of the Caribbean, was released in Spanish and English.

Hands down, the BEST Puerto Rican food I have ever. Everything was delicious, and everyone there was very friendly and helpful. Super nice guy behind the counter when you walk in who explained everything and showed us everything they had that day. I am so glad I didn’t miss out on those Empanadas because they were borderline life changing. I will absolutely be going back, probably too often.

Something different every time I go in there– the chicken was tender, tasty, and fall off the bone delicious. Great sides and desserts. The people are sweet and informative– explained what everything was and let me sample! Huge portions (could live off that rice alone) and never boring. Not much seating (maybe 4 two tops) and small location but charming and clean and different.

The best description I can come up with is this place is a hidden gem. The hospitality is extremely friendly and everything was exquisite. The fried rice with pigeon peas was cooked to perfection, the roasted chicken, I have no words. The beans I never tasted anything with that kind of flavor, I was sad when I ran out. Never had yuca until then. Get the yuca, trust me. Best advice, get 10 people, order everything and try everything. They are generous with the portions and the quality is something of a 5 star restaurant.

Great new restaurant for our area. Generous portions. Well prepared. Nicely seasoned. Nice flavors, not too spicy. Just stop on in, most food on the menu is hot and ready for you within minutes.

I had my first meal here yesterday and it will be the first of many delicious ones I am sure. This is a gem of a restaurant for Puerto Rican cuisine in Tuscarawas county. I had a friend recommend this place (he knows good food), and he’s aware of my love of travel. I have been to Puerto Rico 3 times and have always enjoyed the hospitality, but cannot resist the food. I had the roasted pork, rice with pigeon peas, and fried plantains. I oredered at the counter and ate in their small dining area. The generous portion was enough for 3 meals (I know this because I had the leftovers for both breakfast and lunch today, do not judge) and only wish I had ordered more of their options that were available.

Great little restaurant. Not a lot of seating but most people that came in was taking it to go. The food is authentic Puerto Rican cooking. My wife and I got different dishes and tried a variety of their foods. The empanadas were awesome! (our favorite). Rice and beans, mofongo, plantains, pork, chicken. Price was good, 10 dollars a meal with plenty of food. Friendly service.

After reading reviews we decided to try them, good place to go for comfort food. We got chicken and fried rice with beans. It was all good but I thought the fried rice could of had more flavor. Plenty of food dished up for serving.

Very good food. Reasonably priced for what you get. Which is A LOT. My favorite was the rice and empanadas. Highly recommend this place. Will definitely go back again soon.

We have just begun to sample the cuisine here. Excellent churrascos, chicken and roast pork, rice and beans, plantain/chicken. My first foray into Puerto Rican food, but it won’t be the last!

Huge portions and great seasonings, can’t find the depth of flavor anywhere else around. The Shrimp Mofongo was on point definitely will be back when I’m in town.
